Sarkozy: Greece has France's support

French president Nicholas Sarkozy has once again pledged his support for the Greece's position in its name dispute with the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia (FYROM).

 

Greek Ministry of Tourism posters vandalised in Rome

A provocative act took place in the Italian capital against a photographic exhibition with tourist posters organised by the Greek National Tourism Organisation in the central square of Santa Maria in Trastevere.

The Hellenic Ministry of Tourism issued a statement labelling as "hotheads" those that "found the chance to dispute the Greek character of Macedonia." Vandalised Greek Ministry of Tourism poster in Rome

On Sunday morning the passerbys realised that signs in English had been written on six out of the 32 poster-photographs that : proclaimed among other slogans; "Free Macedonia," and in Italian "Macedonia non è greca" (Macedonia is not Greek).

The exhibition had been inaugurated in February from the Minister of Tourism Mr Aris Spiliotopoulos in the Ιnternational Τourism Fair BIT of Milan, while previous Thursday it had been transported in Rome and Naples.

The Greek Ministry of Foreign Affairs also released a statement saying these sorts of incidents are "the result of the unchecked nationalism used by Prime Minister Gruevski".
