Default Turkey and its EU progress....

Turkey will never get in to the EU. They just keep prolonging the process.

European parliamentary committee adopts Turkey progress report

The European Parliamentary Committee on Foreign Affairs adopted on Monday Turkey's 2007 Progress Report. The draft report, prepared by Dutch rapporteur Ria Oomen-Ruijten, was adopted with 53 votes against two. Also four committee members abstained. The report calls on Turkey to speed up reforms. Final voting on the report will be made in general assembly in May.

The Foreign Affairs Committee urged Turkey to transform priorities and time-lines into reform plans in its latest progress report adopted on Monday evening.

Prior to the voting on the report at the European parliament, Ruijten said Turkey should carry on with reforms for modernization and implementation of the principle of rule of law. The rapporteur also said she tried to be fair and balanced while preparing the report.

The committee welcomed several recent legislative activities of Turkey, while insisting that the speed of reforms must pick up. While the committee stresses that "modernisation is first and foremost in Turkey's own interest," it also notes that "further delays will seriously affect the pace of negotiations."
