Default The Czech Republic has recognized independence of Kosovo

The Czech Republic has recognized independence of Kosovo <<

Following the proposal of the Minister of Foreign Affairs, the Government expressed on 21st May 2008 its agreement with the establishment of diplomatic relations with the Republic of Kosovo, by which the Czech Republic recognized the Republic of Kosovo as an independent state.

The policy of the Czech Republic proceeds from the conviction that the recognition of independence of Kosovo will provide for the strengthening of the overall stability in the region and for realistic way out of the untenable situation and will direct the efforts of the countries of the Western Balkans on to the challenges arising from their future membership in the European and Euroatlantic institutions.

The recognition of Kosovo and the establishment of diplomatic relations will be part of the reply of the Minister of Foreign Affairs to a letter from the President and the Prime Minister of Kosovo. By recognizing Kosovo and establishing diplomatic relations, the Czech Republic will confirm its active policy in the region of Western Balkans and its work for its stabilization and democratic development in the long run.

The Czech Republic will transform its UNMIK Liaison Office in Pristina into the Embassy of the Czech Republic in the Republic of Kosovo.

Greece denies change in stance on Kosovo
24 May 2008 | 21:08 | Source: Tanjug
ATHENS -- Greece confirmed that Foreign Minister Dora Bakoyannis did meet with a man the authorities in Pritina appointed as their foreign minister.

Bakoyannis and Skender Hyseni spoke on the sidelines of the South East European Cooperation Process (SEECP) summit in Bulgaria recently, Greek Foreign Ministry spokesman George Koumoutsakos said.

He also added that there has been "no change in the Greek stance on the issue of Kosovo".

Athens has not recognized Kosovo Albanians' unilateral declaration of independence.

Asked why the meeting had not been announced, Koumoutsakos replied that "short and informal meetings of this type, lasting only a few minutes, are routinely held on the sidelines of international conferences and are not always announced".

Bakoyannis repeated the known Greek position on the issue of Kosovo as she spoke with Hyseni, the spokesman added.

Koumoutsakos told reporters that the meeting was requested by Hyseni, Greek agency ANA reports.

He also pointed out that Athens "never concealed" that a new state of affairs had arisen in Kosovo, adding that Greece would make a decision "after examining all aspects and ramifications of the new facts for the security of the region and in the context of wider national interests".

According to main opposition PASOK party spokesman George Papaconstantinou, however, the meeting had been "secret" and indicated a possible change in the government's position on Kosovo's secession.

"We once again call on the government not to recognize a declaration of independence that destabilizes the region and contradicts the fundamental decisions of the United Nations," PASOK concluded.

I teach both Albanian and Serbs teens who are from Kosovo. Interestingly, the two Albanian girls that are Kosovar Albanians have last names that sound very Slavic... ending in ic (Lukovic, and Koljovic). How different are the Kosovar Albanians from Albainains from Albania? Language, music, foods...... I imagine that the Albanians in Southern Albania are more "Greek-like"??

Any thoughts?

Regards.

Thats because very often in the past Albanian surnames were changed,or were slavisated by adding vic,at the end.Their languge is totally different, even music is not that similar,Kosovars use mostly the cifteli for their songs, the same as North Albanians, and serbs don't,and i dont know what to say about food, because i don't know the serbian one.

Why, what did the USA think would happen? Thaci's Kosovo, being an Yank protectorate, obviously expected the Yanks to do everything for them and now they're being chastised for it?

The mentality of the doomed.
