Bosnian Serbs threaten secession over Kosovo | Reuters
The Bosnian Serb Parliament has "threatened to hold a referendum on secession from Bosnia if a majority of U.N. member states and the European Union recognise Kosovo's independence".
I have a question (to Vasiliye in particular), how can this be achieved? The High Representative for Bosnia and Herzegovina has the power to dismiss elected officials who obstruct the implementation of the Dayton Agreement. Originally this post would have been abolished on 30 June 2008 however because of the independence rumors it has been
extended indefinitely.
Assuming the majority of UN member states do recognize Kosovo (the EU already has) and the the Bosnian Serb Parliament declares independence, how will it be asserted. I'd imagine that if the Bosnian Serb Parliament tried anything like that, NATO would send in troops to bring them back into line. Unless Russia dispatches a dozen platoons for a picnic on Republika Srpska's borders to scare them off, I don't see how the Republika Srpska could assert independence.
Has anything on this issue been discussed in the Serbian press?
