Default "Kosovo i Metohija"

What is "Metohija"? In Greek a μετόχι/metohi (in plural μετόχια/metohia) is land owned by a monastery, does this mean that Kosovo was a fief in the Middle Ages or something? Where does that name come from?

Exactly, the origin of the term is from that Greek word. "Metohija" is name of the region which constitutes the Western strip of Kosovo in the wider sense and the region has been named in medieval times and kept its name since than due to the fact that it was widely covered with properties of the local monasteries
