Exclamation New map given to Turkish schools

The map was included in a CD-ROM distributed to schools in Istanbul

http://www.milliyet.com.tr/Guncel/Ha...rkuk%20acilimi
(the article is dated 30/9/09)

Quote:
Reports Istanbul - where the CD was distributed - Director of National Education Director Muammer Yıldız as saying, “Such a map, even if it was of another country rather than our own, would be unacceptable. This was a huge mistake which should not have been made and may give rise to various debates. I am very sorry.”

The idiot who created that map has no clue about geography.I see there is included in this "Greater Turkey" version not only the Greek province of Western Thrace but even the whole of Kavala prefecture and parts of Drama and Serres prefectures.Hey,hold on re memetia! The borderline almost reached my house!

Kosta,

I notice its says 'Skandal Harita' on the magazine.
Can we assume that 'Harita' means 'map' ?
If so its very close to Greek 'Harti' .
Is this a Turkish loan or they got it from Greek ??

If Harita means something else disregard this message lol

Hartis is an ancient Greek word, perhaps of Egyptian origin:

And you are right, the Turkish word "harita" means map:

Of course they borrowed Greek word HARTI, in Serbia we say "KARTA", derived from "HARTI-ja" meaning paper, and as I know they do not use paper in toalet but bottle of water, so they can use their map instead of bottle.

That's true for all the Muslims.Instead to wipe their arse with toilet paper, they wash it. I've noticed when i visited Contantinople some years ago that there were some strange small tubes inside the toilets of the hotels...these tubes are for that purpose, while in some shops, restaurants e.t.c they use a brush and a small can with water My father was an immigrant in Germany in the late 60's and he told me what happened with the first Turks that worked in the German factories. When they went to the WC and came out,the Germans noticed that they smelled strange...one day a German spied a Turk in the toilet and thus he solved the mystery:They didn't wipe their arse with the toilet paper because they were not familiar with it!And since there were not the tools to wash it.....you understand!

Well, the idiot who made the map doesn't know where exactly Thrace ends and Macedonia starts.I see the nearby island of Samothraki doesn't exist in the map.Maybe he confused these islands, who knows?B.t.w. have you been to Thasos for vacation?I know it was a favorite destination for Serbs in the time of United Yugoslavia.

ancient greek ΧΑΡΤΗΣ (hartis) meant paper rather than map. The latin derivative was initially 'charta'. I deem the slavic languages got it from latin. Then greeks used it too as 'harta' (with the meaning of 'organizational schedule') and today we say 'karta', meaning 'card'.
