When I was a little child some distant relatives came at home. Unfortunately my parents have lost the contact and now I am “blindly” seeking them. Of course, I hope they are alive or they have descendants! But whatever the case might be, it is a part of a normal ancestral research. In my long message I wrote that I met Bulgarian speaking persons. Pure Bulgarian that I met (if there is something pure nowadays at all) was only one, who is married there.

No, I didn’t contact any Embassy or Consulate. The local authorities were friendly and helpful enough. The Bulgarian I spoke to is born in Bulgaria and married in Greece.

The truth is that there really are some (very few) old people in Macedonia and Thrace who speak Bulgarian. Some of them do have relatives in Bulgaria or FYROM. Their descents are grecophone with elementary Bulgarian language knowledge that could any Greek have.

I have the same impression. All the people I spoke in Bulgarian to were old. Their children didn’t say a word, probably because they do not speak it. In the trains I traveled with there were a lot of students from the both countries, cheerful noisy mixed groups, who spoke each others language fluently.
