Let me guess KOKO will either disappear now or post something irrelevant and not mention the sources above about his language?

another primary, contemporary source from a century ago:

Quote:
Within the last month I have visited about 10 large gangs of Bulgars working on the railroads. In some I have found not a single native of Bulgaria, and in some two to seven, the gangs averaging fifty men. To one who knows the lanaguage, there is no mistake in distinguishing. There is as much difference in speech and intonation as between Missouri and County Clare, though the Bulgarian of Bulgarian schools and Macedonia is the same.
Albert Sonnichsen, Confessions of a Macedonian bandit, 1909, p268

Am new to the forum, so I don't know if this has been posted before, but in Britannica Encyclopedia they quote the Ottoman census 1905 for the three vilayets of Salonica, Monastir and Uskub, as follows:

Muslims: 1,720,007, Greeks 648,962, Bulgars 557,734, Serbs 167,601, Jews and others 77,386.

Of course, what is obvious there was no distinct Slavic "Macedonian" community noted. Of course the Turks would have played with the figures and inflated their Muslim numbers, as well as deflate those of the Christians. But you would also think with Greek and Bulgarian bands fighting over Ottoman "Macedonia", it would have been in the Turk's interest to encourage a national movement with no national allegiance to either Greece and Bulagria. This would have been to their advantage, and they would have encouraged the formation of a Slavic "Macedonia" conscience. However, one simply did not exist for the Turks to use.

Just to note, in the same article, it was listed that the Greeks had 927 schools to the Bulgarian's 785 and Serb's 178. Once again, there was no mention of a ethno-specific Slav "Macedonian" language etc.

Folks,
I'm a Kosovar from Republic of Kosovo, and I just happen to support Greece on this one. It should be called either FYROM...or something else...Slavs of FYROM are bulgars. Their former president moved to Bulgaria and established a bulgarian political party. Vardarska could be the best one. Or PEPSI or COCA COLA, why not....It's Shkupi or Skupi since ancient times. Slavs settled and tried to changed it Skopje, now they came up with this mythology Macedonia.
Towns like Skupi were 100% Albanian populated until 20th century.
Don't let them fool you cuz I know slavo FYRoms...

I know that there are about ,20'000 of them in Kosova, and there are some gorani villages in north albania as well.As far as i know we have even an important politician,of gorani origin.
They are muslims slavs, they were ruled by serbia for a century, and they lived, next to Albanians.Probably they are of Bulgarian origin, but because of the serbian influence,of the muslim religion, that they share with bosniaks, and of the many common customs they share with albanians i think they are today even more confused then Fyromians.
To make it brief, they are the typical population claimed by everyone around.

Perfect Article ... Shows Everything

So ... summarizing :

1) 1822 FYROMers are self-identified as Bulgarians "Bugari"
2) 1850 Serbians promote "Macedonism" as a measure that will cause
de-Bulgarization , which facilitates later "Serbization"
3) 1875 Bulgarians with Russian support promote "Macedonism" to block eventual "Serbization" or Greek expansion and to acquire as much as possible followers among the Christian fraction of the European Othoman Empire by proclaiming "Macedonia for the Macedonians".
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
RESULT -> We have a ping-pong ball that has been counterchanged so much that in the end not knowing what to believe has started to believe the "makedonism" story !!!
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Great work Tsontos , exhaustively illuminating !!!
