So we have them and the Bulgarians want them. IMO it would be a great gesture by Greece to return them to Bulgaria but is there any reason why this hasn't happened yet? Another pro is that we'll really piss off the skops if we did it.

According to Wiki -------------------------- Samuil's grave was found in 1965 by Greek professor Nikolaos Moutsopoulos, on an island in Lake Prespa, in the Church of St Achillios. Samuil had built the church for the relics of the saint of the same name.[117] The coat of arms of the Comitopuli house, two perched parrots, was embroidered on his funeral garment. His remains are kept in a secret location in Greece, but according to a recent agreement, they may be returned to Bulgaria and buried in the SS. Forty Martyrs Church in Veliko Tarnovo by April 2007, to rest with the remains of emperors Kaloyan and Michael Shishman http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tsar_Samuel#Grave -------------------------- According to this article they were meant to be returned in April 07 but I don't think that's happened. Though I could be wrong.

Here's an article from last year, when I first read about it --------------------------------- That noted King Samuil It is a reasonable suggestion to exchange the remains of King Samuil for Greek scripts: Blagoevgrad Mayor It is a reasonable suggestion to exchange the remains of King Samuil for Greek scripts, the mayor of the town of Blagoevgrad Lazar Prichkapov commented for Radio FOCUS Pirin viewing the idea about the exchange of the relics. if its up to me I would not hesitate even for a moment to give the Greek script to the Greeks, and the remains of the Bulgarian Tsar Samuil to come back to Bulgaria, the mayor was firm. He considers that talks must be held on the issue on both political and scientific level. because if there is some doubt that the document is not Greek, then science must intervene, but if it is a proved scientific fact, then the easiest way is to find a solution that would be of shared interest of the two states and nations, and the solution will be a political one, Prichkapov explained. Tsar Samuils remains place is on the territory of Bulgaria: Karakachanov The place of Tsar Samuils remains and those of his successors Gavril Radomir and Ivan Vladislav, is on the territory of Bulgaria, the leader of the Bulgarian VMRO Krasimir Karakachanov told FOCUS news Agency. He was asked to comment on the possible exchange of the remains of Tsar Samuil for Greek scripts. He considers such an agreement is normal to be reached at between Bulgaria and Greece. However, he added that only those scripts that are in deed Greek must be given back, and not those that are Bulgarian, but written in Greek. It is known that by 1870 Bulgarian eparchies were part of the Greek church and only when the exarchy appeared, they split. And till that time Greek language w3as used as an official language as official language of the Greek patriarchate, VMRO leader explained. It would be good if there are signs that confirm readiness for a single reading of history: President In the spirit of our new relations with the allies it would be good if there are similar signals that confirm our common readiness for a single reading of our history, Bulgaria President Georgi Parvanov said answering a journalists question whether during the meeting with the Greek President Karolos Popoulias he has discussed the issue about the exchange of Greek scripts for the bones of the renowned Bulgarian ruler Tsar Samuil. President Parvanov said that specific ideas on the issue have not been commented for the moment and that it is not the Presidents duty to specify principles since this is something that would be done by scientific units and experts from different Ministries. FOCUS Agency reminds: The Trud daily has wrote yesterday that the bones of Tsar Samuil may be brought to Bulgaria. This will happen if Sofia agrees to give precious Greek scripts to Greece. The scripts were rescued by Bulgarian soldiers during WWI. The issue about the exchange is expected to be raised in the frames the visit of the Greek President Karolos Papoulias to Sofia, diplomatic sources who preferred not to be named had told the Trud daily. The remains of the Bulgarian ruler were found in 1965 by the renowned archeologist Nikolas Moutsopoulos, who is also coming to a visit to Bulgaria. Exponents exchange is a mass practice: Prof Bozhidar Dimitrov The idea about the exchange of the remains of Tsar Samuil for Greek scripts is not bad, as far as it is made under the form of exchange, and not as a return or a gift, the head of the National Museum of History Prof Bozhidar Dimitrov commented. It is a world practice museum exponents to be exchanged. In this case we need a political will, and we can easily arrange it as colleagues. http://www.focus-fen.net/index.php?id=h1329 --------------------------------------

Yes,i was talking exactly about these Greek scripts from the byzantine era which the Bulgarian soldiers during WWI took illegal(they didn't rescue them)from the monasteries of Timios Prodromos in Serres and Panagia Eikosifoinissa. This monastery is located at Mt. Panggaio,on the borderline of the prefectures of Serres and Kavala. For more informations, look at the pics below: (I hope i can translate the whole text later) http://img391.imageshack.us/my.php?i...can0008rb2.gif http://img175.imageshack.us/my.php?i...can0009qk9.gif http://img391.imageshack.us/my.php?i...can0010qp2.gif http://img391.imageshack.us/my.php?i...can0011yb0.gif http://img391.imageshack.us/my.php?i...can0012we0.gif http://img391.imageshack.us/my.php?i...can0013ye9.gif http://img391.imageshack.us/my.php?i...can0014vm2.gif

As i was reading the wikipedia article about Samouil, : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tsar_Samuel#Grave i found this: <Samuel's empire had its heartlands about Ochrid, west and southwest of the earlier centers of the First Bulgarian Empire. Thus the White Russian-Yugoslav scholar George Ostrogorsky distinguished Samuel's Empire sharply from the earlier Bulgarian Empire, as being a "Macedonian kingdom".[120] Some of his school, such as Anastasijević, claimed that Samuil ruled a separate Slavic Empire,[121] founded as an anti-Bulgarian rebellion of the Comitopuli, not a continuation of the Bulgarian state. This theory is now held only in the Yugoslav Orthodox lands, Serbia and the Republic of Macedonia;[citation needed] although Pirivatrić rejects it.[122] The official publications of the Republic even refer to a "Macedonian Slavic" or even only "Macedonian" Empire.[123] But Samuil called himself Bulgarian Emperor, and claimed the prestige of the Bulgarian patriarchate>. It doesn't matter what Samouil claimed.Since the enlightened <authorities> of the Scopje University decided that he was <Makedonski> and not Bulgarian then he couldn't be nothing else than <Makedontsi>!
