1) The name is THESSALONIKI just as Alexander called it. Not Solun.


2) Aris and Iraklis are pure Macedonian teams, Iraklis was established in 1908 (even before Macedonia was liberated) Aris was established in 1914. PAOK in 1926 by refugees from Constantinople. Also there is Apollon Kalamarias also established in 1926, by Greeks from Pontus.

Also there is in the lower divisions the team Makedonikos established in 1928:
