Default The Movie "Miss Stone" (1958)

Makedonian movie from 1958 "MISS STONE"

Hello everyone, this is a movie filmed in 1958 in Republika Makedonia.
As a part of the cultural discours between our two nations, I recomend you watch this mivie. The Movie is split into 8 parts and uploaded on the youtube.
Here you will find interesting things about the life in Macedonia during 1903, the VMRO, and the Revolution. Interesting villages and costumes.

About the movie:

The resistance against the Ottoman Empire in Macedonia is rising.
Numerous bands of "komiti" prove the readiness of the Macedonian people to fight for their freedom.

At the same time different religious missions are trying to spread their influence among the people. The center of the American Protestant Mission is in Salonica. After they had received permission to open a protestant course in Bansko, Pirin-Macedonia, the missionaries were on their way. The group of missionaries consists of the American Miss Helen Stone and Mr. and Mrs. Tsilka, Macedonians raised in America.

Their leaving Salonica will be used by the organization called VMRO (Internal Macedonian Revolutionary Organization) as means of drawing the attention of world public opinion towards the situation in Macedonia and to raise money for the armaments of new groups of freedom fighters. This is why the men of Jane Sandanski kidnap Helen Stone and asks for 25. OOO golden liras ransom from the Turkish Government. In the beginning, Miss Stone, being a pacifist, disapproves of the "komiti" but later, witnessing what the Macedonian people have to stand to survive and going through combat actions with the Turks, she turns to the side of the "komiti" and writes the letter by which the demands of the VMRO will be realized.

Enjoy the movie guys

I saw a couple of videos and extracts by the others.I believe it's a propaganda film for internal consumption in the frame of Yugoslavia ,as it was produced on 1958, and of fyrom nowdays.
Gosh, komitadjides were impressive! When they kidnaped the american missionary with her friends ,in the first episode, they nearly offered on that bridge where events took place the six o'clock tea to their future hostages
One komitadji even cleaned the hostage from dust.
By the way ,speaking of the crime of taking someone away by force ,that is kidnap ,did you noticed in the video about how the authorities of the Republic of Skopje kidnaped and executed the pakistani people, with the blond ""makedonka"" ,how she wiped her hand on her dress after the handshake with that boskovki guy? OOhhh.......

Sad they did not released those too,as their ancestors did in fiction.Maybe because there could never be a ransom for the poor pakistanis

Hello everyone, this is a movie filmed in 1958 in Republika Makedonia.
Do you mean it was produced in the Yugoslav Federative Peoples Republic of Macedonia?

Was the director from Belgrade or Skopje?

Amarantos bre Amarantos... The eternal provocateur

Man, I was talking about the movie. This is teh pre-ilinten period.
No anti-greek propaganda is involved, that's what makes the movie so honnest and great.

You must agree that the fighting scene in the end is impressive.
And awsome scenography..

Yes that's right. It was made by the Socialist Republik os Macedonia (a part of SFRY then).

The director is a Makedonets, like most of the acters.

...

My favorite scene in the film is the one when the old komitadji gives miss Ston some rakia (something like your uzo), and she (as a puritan as she is) says:
-"No, no Mandana, it's the devil's potion"

Heheheheh )))

Ha ha ,nice question!!!Mr Zivorad 'Zika' Mitrovic, director of the film, was born
on 3 September 1921 in Belgrade.Who knows, maybe he took orders from above. Nooo, what relation could politics have with culture back in 1958 in Yugoslavia under marshal Tito???

Raki is not Ouzo. We have Raki as well, its Turkish etymologically.

BTW The director was:

A typical comintern moron.

Very enjoyable film.
The director of the film,SERBIAN Zivorad Mitrovic is one of the greatest directors in YU-history.He is noted mostly for war movies(even though he engaged in various genres),and many today still considers one of his works 'Mars na Drinu' as the best YU-film ever.

I think that Mitrovic made this film exclusively for entertainment purpose, and not for 'educating the mass' or so(which was indeed common in former communist countries). The inaccuracies are endless, and it seems to me that he left them untouched just for entertainment's sake.

Thanks Taikou

Yes, I made a mistake, the director was not Makedonets, but the scenario of the film (the sujet) was made by Georgi Abadjiev, a great Makedonski writer.
