When countries had to register their names it was natural that the British wanted Britain as the name of their country, however they had to face the French veto because Brittany is a geographical area of France and that why they got the name, United Kingdom. I think as an argument this example is enough!

Evzones, marched...

Elite soldiers of the presidential guard, or Evzones, marched through Athens yesterday to mark the anniversary of Greeces war of independence. Celebrations included the customary show of strength by Greeces armed forces, including an air show. President Karolos Papoulias hailed the dedication to freedom and self-determination of Greeces resistance fighters, whose spirit, he said, was as relevant as ever in todays unstable geopolitical environment.

Default 1995 agreement "broken" by Greece
Greece has made terrible mistake with the VETO. Because it broke the agreement in 1995 that Greece wouldn't block Macedonia into its aspirations towards the Nato ,Eu or other where Greece is present.We were ready to enter with the name Fyrom till we find mutual accepting solution!THAT PART GREECE "FORGOT" OR ITS TRYING TO GO AROUND!! THE NAME FYROM LASTS TILL WE FIND ACCEPTABLE SOLUTION! BUT NOW SINCE YOU BROKE YOUR AGREEMENT WE WILL NOT CONTINUE THE NEGOTIATIONS!!
WE ARE MACEDONIANS AND OUR COUNTRIES NAME IS REPUBLIC OF MACEDONIA!!!
