I m currently reading a book written by Apostolos Vakalopoulos ("griechische Geschichte von 1204 bis heute) and found a passage where he mentions a few Greek Familys from Macedonia who migrated to germany and austria. One of them the Karagiannis family had a famous offspring: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Herbert_von_Karajan Other greek familys mentioned in this book are: "Jappas" and "Karajan" (there were 2 familys with that name) Anyone heard of them before? Yes, I know about Karajan. It was his great-grandfather who migrated from Macedonia around the end of 18th century to Germany, where he succeeds to cure the local Fürst from some illness. So he was rewarded with the title “von”, which the family has until nowadays.

For those, who like classical music and have some interest in genealogy, there is a link about my favorite conductor Herbert von Karajan family-tree: GeneAll.net - Herbert, Ritter von Karajan For those, who don't understand German language, just click on the name after "VATER". It means "father", and you can follow the lineage until Macedonia, Kozani. |
