Default Palyrria keeping Greek music tradition

Since there is no other music forum I post it here.

There is a group in greece doing a fantastic job keeping the traditional Hellenic music alive but also pushing it further by adding modern soundscapes.

Palyrria were established some years ago and has released 3 albums with mainly folk and ancient greek music, fused with electronic sounds.

Their latest works include ressurections of Sapfo and Alkaios lyrics. Other tunes include Pontian, Epirotan, Cycladic and Byzantine music themes.

This are two of the videos available at the moment.

I believe you people should check them out, especially if they do a live near your area. One of my favorite tunes are Pangaia which is like hearing Massive Attack VS our Pontian Akrites.

Some lyrics:

Anassa - Orpheus hymn to nature

Zonae (Alcaeus - Sapfo)

Note the Palyrria has also composed some music based on Hindu and native American songs.

That is awesome! I think they could incorporate much more Pontian music in their routine due to the heavy drums and primal sound of Pontian music.

Anyways that is a great synthesizing of old Greek with modern sounds!

I am definitely going to check out more of their stuff!

Yeah, they are awesome!

They have more Pontian tunes. Warlike stuff! Epirotans sounds as well. Search for 002 and Kakavia Express.

They have myspace as well with their tunes www.myspace.com/palyrria
