Crvenkovski, Gruevski discuss Nimetz's proposals

Skopje /20/03/ 08:35

President Branko Crvenkovski and Prime Minister Nikola Gruevski discussed Thursday about the three proposals on Macedonia's name, presented by UN mediator Matthew Nimetz at the latest round of talks in Vienna.

The president and the prime minister made no statement to the press after the two-hour meeting late on Thursday. Foreign Minister Antonio Milososki and negotiator Nikola Dimitrov also attended the meeting. Dimitrov told A1 TV that Macedonia will continue the talks with Greece mediated by Nimetz.

"The stake is huge. The process continues," negotiator Dimitrov said. It's very important to do the outmost to ensure a successful conclusion to negotiations and to ensure that the country's national interests be preserved, he added.

Nimetz's latest proposals - Republic of Upper Macedonia, New Republic of Macedonia and Republic of Macedonia (Skopje) - have been already rejected by disputing parties. Prime Minister Gruevski sees the proposals unacceptable.

President Crvenkovski declined to comment the proposals last Tuesday, noting that he would like to hear more details from negotiator Dimitrov.

On Thursday, Gruevski held separate meetings with DPA leader Menduh Thaci, DUI leader Ali Ahmeti and SDSM leader Radmila Sekerinska.

Thaci pledged a full support to the government over the name. Ahmeti and Sekerinska said they were just briefed by the prime minister and he didn't ask them for support or suggestions.

Default Bakoyannis, Milososki to meet in Brussels today

Bakoyannis, Milososki to meet in Brussels today

Skopje /21/03/ 08:32

The foreign ministers of Macedonia and Greece meet today in Brussels in the framework of ongoing efforts by two countries to resolve the name issue.

The meeting of ministers Antonio Milososki and Dora Bakoyannis will take place in Brussels in presence of U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs, Daniel Fried.

The meeting aims to support the UN initiative for a negotiated settlement of the name dispute between Macedonia and Greece.

Citing foreign diplomats, Skopje's A1 TV said the State Department draws up a memorandum which is expected to be initialed by foreign ministers of Macedonia and Greece.

The memorandum, which binds the two sides to continue in amicable way to work on solving the name dispute in the interest of the region, is being drawn up by Assistant Secretary Fried.

The same sources say if Athens and Skopje accept the US demand for unconditional and rapid conclusion of a negotiated settlement of the name issue after the negotiations in New York next week, there will be another high-level meeting under Washington's auspices.

The White House Press Secretary Dana Perino said Thursday the US President is hoping that Macedonia and Greece will come to an agreement before NATO summit, because he thinks that is an issue that is solvable, and something that they should get done before the Bucharest summit. /end/

All borders?? You mean Greek borders because you don't have such a power to close all borders.
We can manage to survive. We always do. We have a lot of friends and very few enemies.

We are sure you are brave people. When Gheorghiefski asked for 1000 volunteers at Feb of 2001 to face Albanian rebels he had only 300 and then he decided to compromise.
Ohrid Agreement.
