I really don't understand how "Greater Albania" is a threat to Greece. What are Albanian extremists going to do, try to turn the Arvanite League into the third UCK?!

Well, this guy is considered an expert on balcans. Go figure. It's the first time we get informed on this issue.

He must have seen those "Greater Albania" maps and assumed that Epirus is like Kosovo and western FYROM.

Where's my favorite map?...

In the US and A, "expert on the Balkans" means that he knows the capital cities of each Balkan country and approximately where they are on the map.

He fails to mention that no one in Mexico is making irredentist claims, whereas in FYROM everyone, even the prime minister, are. Very different...

tough guy Antonio declared on Newsweek

Quote:
Greece is one of the rare countries of the EU that does not recognize the phrase "minority rights." They still have a concept of a pure nationone state, one nation, one religion, one culture, everything Greek. And they do not want to recognize that in Greece there is a big Turkish minority, a big Albanian minority and one small ""Macedonian"" minority.
Is Eagleburger influencing him or the other way around? The tough guy ommits to provide any data anyway, as always. Bla bla bla again and again,

If the "existence" of a "minority" is the cause of the name dispute, logically, once we get FYROM to change their name, we'll try to get Albania and Turkey to change their names.

Milososki is lying (big surprise). Minority rights (i.e. additional rights not accorded to the majority population) are accorded to the minority in Thrace, some required by the Lausanne Treaty, some entirely voluntarily by the Greek government (such as the minority schools). Regarding all other Greek citizens, they enjoy all the rights guaranteed under the Greek constitution, the European Convention on Human Rights etc. The so-called "Macedonian minority" is not asking for equality and basic human rights (which they, along with all other Greek citizens, already have). They are asking for privileges which the Greek government is not obliged to grant, presenting these "privileges" as "basic human rights". It's a distortion of the term "human rights" and an offense against those whose human rights are genuinely being violated (in e.g. North Korea, Saudi Arabia, Iran...).
