Burns: Greece a 'crucial strategic ally' of the US

(there's also this, but it's just a repetition/reaffirmation of the Greek position)

He single handedly undid 50% of the work we have achived with one statement. Sad day. It is hard enough dealing with Fyrom, add USA to that, it is nearly an impossible task.

I think you worry too much. GR can veto if necessary and the US will just have to accept it. Reason: considering how vulnerable the government is, if it repudiates its undertakings, then it will fall and ND will remain in opposition for another ten years. No American threat can intimidate the government more than this.

Contrary to various voiced claims, even if GR does veto FYROM, how do you think the US will respond? A frustrated statement by a junior government official maybe, but American displeasure is highly unlikely to escalate beyond that. What could they possibly do?, come on now... they still want Greek help so that they don't lose face in the Kosovo dispute and they've admitted they consider us a "crucial strategic ally".

I don't think that was a frustrated statement...It was merely a conservative response. He was giving a safe answer. Bakoyannis' response had substance in her justifications and her efforts will be recognized globally amongnst the elite. By the way, I once heard she was regarded as one of the most intelligent prime ministers around the world (high IQ). Can someone confirm this?

Kind Regards,

Astoria

She's not (and never has been) a prime minister although I think she has ambitions to become one.

I think she won some kind of prize as mayor of Athens, in a "competition" of mayors from all over the world.
