This folksong is from the village of Agio Pnevma,Serres region,4 km to the west of my village. The lyrics are written in the local dialect of my native region, the so-called Darnakohoria.

Since some people from the diaspora can't read and only speak Greek,i'll transliterate the lyrics:

tymphaios, you seem to be a bit confused. Start from the beginning and go through the whole thread again. If i titled the thread 'Horiatka' (village talk) and then put up a list of words, greek or loan words, how on earth to get 'po nashi' from that??? ksipna re, it reminds you Western Macedonia because thats were im from also !

Other than that , you provided some great information on the origins of the words.

Well,Tymphaios is obviously not that familiar with "houriatiki" speech because he is not a "houriat's".But nowadays even the "houriates" themselves are not, especially the younger generations.

I found a book which explains why the Scops Owl is called Gionis in Greek.
There is a story behind it, it has to do with 2 brothers one of which was called Antoni. This is from Zakynthos but they also tell a similar story in my village.
Here is the link
