Kissinger and US interests.

I believe the priest who said he had personally heard this speech. He is very highly regarded in Greece - he is very low-key, definitely not the type to say something publicly that could be disproven.

I read somewhere that it was precisely because of American interests in the south east Mediterranean that Kissinger said what he said. We all know how highly volatile Greeks are and when they disapprove of something they make their feelings known - not that it ever seems to do much good but at least we protest.

Continuation, sorry!!

Greeks are also very politically aware of what is going on around them, plus they are very proud.

Last night I read that Newsweek conducted a poll. More Americans believe that Iraq was responsible for the terrorist attack in the US, than they did 5 years ago.

How can anyone explain this? Even Bush has admitted that Iraq had nothing to do with the attack.

Now contrast the tiny country of Greece with one such as the US. Can you imagine Greeks not being informed about every detail about what is happening
as regards their country. They might be misinformed about something and their political leanings might colour their opinion at first, but being the great talkers that they are they would at least hear what the other side says (when they themselves stop talking) and come to some conclusion. Also their distrust of all authority - including the MME - would ensure that they would at least try and find out what the truth is, mainly because they think that everyone has his own agenda.

Such a quote is something any journalist would take note of and would become an international story. I dont know who this priest is, and I dont know why the greco report thinks anything he says is gospel and last but not least I think greco report is a terrible source.

The Greco report is suspect bordering on conspirational theories about the Jews.....They always blame them for Greece's misdeeds.

Ok, let me try and answer.

I don't know what the "Greco report" is. This item was in the Economicos Tachydromos - one of the most serious news magazines in Greece at that time.

It might not be true - how can we be 100% sure about that. Bakogiannis might have been lying, the Professor - priest might have been lying, or it might have been repressed as so much has been repressed over the years.

The three sources that attest to it are reliable sources - and that is what makes me believe that it is probably true.

Can you deny that Greece has been the victim of hundreds of attacks in news magazines, newspapers, and TV programmes over the past 20 years or so. Why? I used to get Time magazine for years and years and then suddenly - sometime around 1980 if I'm not mistaken - articles started appearing in it - all negative about Greece and from "various sources".

And not just articles, but small negative comments in articles that apparently had nothing to do with Greece. This is a familiar tactic that Time - and others - use when trying to get their ideas across. They use words, they insert negative comments that no-one really takes notice of at the time but whose negative ideas slowly seep into the mind of the person reading them. And of course whole articles. The same method is used by advertising companies on TV.

It think it's mainly the above that makes me believe that the Kissinger remarks are probably true.

Consider : If it looks like a duck, and quacks like a duck, we have at least to consider the possibility that we have a small aquatic bird of the family anatidae on our hands." -

Yes, that is where I downloaded my information from. I didn't notice the name of the site.

But, this is not the first time that I have heard of Kissinger's comments regarding Greece. I remember reading about them somewhere and I also watched a TV discussion programme about this matter.

Sorry that I didn't recognize the name

remember that Kissinger was the Minister of Foreign Affairs, many say he is to blaim for encouraging Junta and ignoring the members of his Department when they were alerting him about the upcoming situation in Greece . However, lets not forget the Turkish invasion in Cyprus.
