Post Modern Greeks

Our ancient greek heritage: A quite glorious heritage distinguished by important inventions, advanced -for its era- sciences, fine arts, noble ideals, great philosophers and world changing deeds plus being a source of inspiration for many other civilizations in the modern world.

And now I ask you something I might get criticized for.
What do modern Greeks have to do with all these?
Do we really have the right to be so proud about all these?
Do we have the right to feel and consider ourselves important because of these?

Everytime I take a look at the modern greek society I see nothing resembling the things we are proud of or the civilization we claim to have. Instead I see pieces of it, adopted by others that might even honor it more than they do in its modern place of origin. (In addition we don't care for our historical treasures as much as we should.) You can tell me there are many examples/exceptions to this but whats the general rule?

What I see is people being killed or beaten in football team disputes,
people that argue over meaningless political differences and disagreements - or even worse - young people supporting a political party with excess fanatism (and most times when they have nothing to gain),
people that are absurdly prejudiced and close-minded because of religion (mostly christianity in Greece),
people who care about fashion and celebrities more than they care for their own well-being
- these kinds of people invoke the glory of their kin, and explain how, that when "they" were civilized, all the other tribes were mere barbarians.

Concerning the name dispute, I have seen and heard numerous times, cases, in which "pure" Greeks threaten and swear at people with opposing opinions about this certain matter, without trying to discuss or without even bothering to use they brain or at least a little diplomacy, calling them barbarians while they behave like one. Of course this issue of fanatism as i mentioned earlier doesn't concern only national pride matters.

Anyway I hope I don't get silly answer-questions such as "are you perfect judging others?" because the answer is obvious. This is my personal opinion and i wonder what is yours for the questions in the first paragraph. That is all.
Have a nice and pleasant day

GLOBALISATION. Greece had her golden age my friend and they left the world with treasures that we still do cherish and look up too.

I could be blunt and say well Hesiod wrote of the disrespect that Greece herself would show to herself by hubris and by demeaning ones own blood. Onfortunately Hesiod probably knew all to well how man functions.

As we move forward we are enveloped by self gain. Christianity was a major political movement by the Romans and no one else, they glorified it not us. Did we have a choice yes, and many fought and many turned....forcefuly..some quitely. Hellenism was very much distinct from the Romans. Monotheism is nothing but Neo Platonism. so in a way , we can still take pride for our religion because it was birthed from the ancients, if its right or wrong moraly for the Greeks, well 99% of them back there think so. Although some feel they still pray to the Olympiads i think that is as about as blind as the monotheistic practice. I think what we lack in todays society as Greeks is the ability to practice as we once did. The countries system ( apart from being democratic) has no feature of ancient Greek spirit within people, perhaps some.

Technology is the new playground. Spiritualism has vanquished even from the christians.

You need to be philosopical in life because that is the mythra that produced the finest men and woman in any single era.

You cannot turn the Greeks back to what they were, they are no longer Hellenes and that is the point.

These are a couple of the saddest posts I've read in this forum.
