The Macedonian Freedom Fighter forces led by Second Lieutenant Georgios Katechakis (nom-de-guerre Roùvas) and by Euthymios Kaoudis,penetrate in the village of Sklithro in the Florina region and they boldly attack a house in which the wedding of an important member of the VMRO was taking place,that was attended by the leading komitadji Kole.In the battle that follows the two Macedonian Freedom Fighter forces succeed in killing twelve armed komitadjis and in spreading terror to the Bulgarian organizations in the region.

The restoration of the integrity of the Pindus sector is nearly completed up to the borders on the mountain Grammos.The Italian Alpinist Division Giulia,which had penetrated to a depth of 30 km. on a front of 20 km. up to the village of Vovousa north of Metsovo is crushed and retreats from the Greek territory.This is the result of offensive actions that had been launched as of 1 November by Division I,the Cavalary Brigade and other units and battle groups of Army Corps B in the areas of Eptachori,Fourka,Distrato,Samarina,Vovousa and Palaioseli.

The Macedonian Freedom Fighters force led by Second Lieutenant Sarantos Agapinos (nom-de-guerre Tellos Agras),that was active in lake Giannitsa, attacks with the objective of capturing the main Bulgarian kalyva (=hut) in the area of Zervochori.Even though the Greek force inflicts serious casualties on the komitadjis,it is unable to achieve its mission,while Agapinos,his second-in-command and four of his men are wounded.

The assembly of the administration of Eastern Sterea takes place under the presidency of Theodoros Negris.Two days later the assembly elects the members of the Legal Provision of east-central Greece-Areios Pagos,a political,administrative and juridical organism.

The pronouncement of the death penalty to six out of eight persons accused for the failure of the Asia Minor campaign and especially the uprooting of Asia Minor Hellenism,takes place at 0630 hours.Georgios Hatzianestis (Commander-in-Chief),Dimitrios Gounaris,Nikolaos Stratos,Petros Protopapadakis,Georgios Baltatzis,Nikolaos Theotokis (statesmen,leading figures of the Popular party) are sentenced to death for high treason.
Nikolaos Plastiras signs the order for the execution of the Six.

Battles take place in the village of Agios Theodoros and in the neighboring village of Kofinos between Greekcypriot and Turkishcypriot residents,after initiative of general Grivas.The Turkish national assembly in secret voting decides with only two negative votes to declare war against Greece.The USA send the mediator C. Vance in the region.

Rauf Denktas with the support of Ankara declares as "Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus" the military occupied by the turkish army territory of Cyprus.Few days later the Security Council of the UN with the resolution 541/83 condemns this particular act.

The Great Powers,Russia,England and France,sign the protocol of London, which forecasts the retirement of the Turkish troops from Greece.This protocol excluded Central Greece from the Greek State's territory.The frontiers of the new Greek state that was under formation included only the Peloponnese and the Cyclades.However,some months later,the frontier line Amvrakikos-Pagasitikos was adopted by the Great Powers in the Protocol of 10/22 March 1829 which was signed in London too.

The Greek submarine Triton,under the command of Lieutenant Epameinondas Kontogiannis,attacks a German convoy in the Kafireas straits near Euboea island and sinks the oil tanker ALBA JULIA.It is pursued by the German patrol boat UJ201 for six hours and is torpedoed,sinking in the position 37.07 Β 024.39 Α.In total 23 of her crew die and 30 are captured among them her CO. while 2 escape swimming to the shore (Chief Petty Officer Maroulas and Petty Officer Papadimitriou).

The EKSE (ΕΚΣΕ: Ekstratephtiko Soma Ellados) Headquarters and Battalion under the command of Colonel Ioannis Daskalopoulos,departs from Greece on its way to Korea.This Force is comprised of fifty-three officers and 798 enlisted men and joins the other United Nations forces that participate in the Korean War.
The Greek forces participated in many battles in Geumhwa and Cholwon,and around Imjin river,and they also fought bravely in Geumsung area until the moment of the ceasefire.186 of them were killed and 543 were injured in defense of Korea during the war.

The party of the Field Marshal Alexandros Papagos,"Greek Alarm"-" Ελληνικός Συναγερμός",wins the elections with the percentage of 49,22% of the votes,and with 247 seats in the Parliament forms a government. (death of A. Papagos on October,4 1955).

Spyros Samaras,composer of the Olympic Anthem which was written by Kostis Palamas,is born in Corfu island (Kerkyra).The Anthem was first performed during the opening ceremony of the 1896 Summer Olympics,the first modern Olympic Games.It was declared the official anthem of the Olympic movement by the International Olympic Committee in 1958 and has been used at every Olympic opening ceremony since the 1964 Summer Olympics.

The new constitution is published in the Government Gazette.It is the result of the National Assembly constituted after the enthronement of Otto and is composed of 110 articles.According to this constitution,the regime of the Royal Republic is established.Instead of the monarch,it is the Greek nation that is acknowledged as the source and agent and the political power.As determined in article 21:"All powers derive from the Nation and are exercised as defined by the Constitution".Other articles provide that the executive power is exercised by the king whereas the legislative power by the king and the Parliament (the Senate is not reconstituted).The parliament is composed of 150 -at least- deputies which are elected and its term of office lasts four years.Moreover,the direct universal suffrage with secret balloting is established and it is clearly determined that the elections shall be held on the entire territory at the same time.

In the national elections the two dominating parties,of Deliyannis and Theotokis,elect 102 deputies each.This leads to governmental instability.The continuous conflicts between the followers of the two parties lead to violent incidents with many persons injured.The demonstrators use boards (σανίδες) from the buildings of the Stadiou Str. and the episodes will remain in the history as "Sanidika".

A Macedonia Freedom Fighters force of forty men under the command of Second Lieutenant Georgios Tsontos (nom-de-guerre Vardas),from Sphakia in Crete,crosses the Greek-Turkish border into Macedonia near Agiophyllo in Thessaly.The Greek Macedonian Committee had assigned the general leadership of the guerilla forces in the vilayet (province) of Monastir to Tsontos,after his predecessor Georgios Katechakis had fallen ill.

Alexandros Panagoulis tried by a Military Court is sentenced to death for the assassination attempt against the head of the military coup Georgios Papadopoulos,on August 13,1968.He is transported to the island of Aegina for the sentence to be carried out,but as a result of political pressure from the international community,the junta avoids to execute him and instead he is incarcerated.

The "Uprising of the Polytechnic-National Technical University of Athens". From the beginning of November began to emerge the accentuation of the anti-junta demonstrations.On November 15 hundreds of students begin to assemble in the courtyard of the Techical University and shout slogans, protesting against the military regime.Finally they barricade themselves in the building.Around 7.30 in the evening of November 16,the police tries to dissolve the students.In the midnight the army enters in Athens.In 2.30 in the morning of November 17,tanks are found outside the Techical University, while thousands of students are in the institution.In 2.45 a tank crashes through the gate of the Athens Polytechnic on Patision Str. and forces of the police entry in the Institution suppressing the Uprising.The government under Markezinis declares once again the military law.The student uprising of the Polytechnic is hailed by many as a valiant act of resistance against the military dictatorship,and therefore as a symbol of resistance to tyranny.It is currently a school holiday in Greece,while various events take place in memory of the student's uprising of 1973.

Konstantinos Karamanlis and his party wins the national elections obtaining a massive parliamentary majority.(New Democracy 54,4%, Center Union - New Forces 20,5%, Panhellenic Socialist Movement 13,5%, United Left 9%).
