Default The best Greek General in Antiquity

Let's poll.
Who was the best General in the Classical era.
For the beginning I put someone Great Generals. In the course of this poll I change the names.
But not only vote. Please add and the reasond of your choice, such as tactics, strategy and policy

Personally I vote Phillipos.
He never allow their degree of participation in the battle to conflict with their ability to control events.
At Chaeronea, Philipos did not order a pursuit that could have annihilated the Athenians and Thebans. He had large political goals in mind. The harsh treatment of Thebes by Philip after Chaeronea demonstrates that a great power is rarely willing to tolerate a competitor on its periphery if the means to prevent it are at hand.
The League of Corinthwas a tool of Philip's political interests. He Unite all the Greeks with the power of weapon and speech.

There are so many criteria to take into consideration.

I believe Phillip, DIPLOMATICALLY, was the best. The bravest of the Ancient Greek Generals(not listed) hands down was LEONIDAS. The greatest conqueror and "leader by example" of course, is Alexandros. There are many more to list that all had their own unique gifts, but I believe these are probably the 3 greatest.

I will go for The Great one since I judge a General's ablity by the "amount" of conquered lands plus that fact that is harder to attack a defenting army, which is what he did most of his time succesfully!
Thanks for the oportunity akrita!

So very tough. I agree with all of you guys (is that possible? lol). My vote goes to Philip b/c he is the one who drew up all the plans to conquer Asia and he united the Greeks (at least most of the Greeks). Here is another question, uniting Greeks or conquering Asia, LOL, damn it Greeks fight each other way to much over the centuries, long before and long after Chaeronea. Anyway, back to the original question. Philip was so very calculating. The fact remains Alexander was so brilliant is executing his plans, Philip doesn't get all the credit he deserves for conquering Asia and for Chaeronea. Thanks Akritas.

I would like to add that when it comes to battlefield strategy and being able to recognize, react and manipulate a weakness at a moments notice, Alexandros is definitely the Greatest!

No other general has ever had his natural battlefield abilities. Of course, Alexandros also had several weaknesses which lead(I believe) to his death. But then again so does everyone!

I voted for Phillipos not because i dont think Alexandros was a great fighter and leader but because the question is "who was the best General" and i really believe that with out the strategic moves and the preperation of Phillipos,Alexander could never do what he did afterwoods!
Alexandros was a fighting spirit,a fearless fighter but not a great General!
Even the battles he gave and won were STRATEGICALLY UNACCEPTABLE!!!(An thats why he won i believe!)

P.S. This is my 1st post here and i have to say hello to everyone and i'm glad to be here!
