Default Young Greeks embrace the fast-food culture

Why are we Greeks so ready to embrace foreign elements in our culture?

Young Greeks embrace the fast-food culture
Young Greeks are spending more than half their disposable income on food and drink but are not eating healthily, relying on processed and packaged food and neglecting the staples of the traditional Mediterranean diet, new figures have shown.

According to National Statistics Service data made public yesterday at a conference on the agricultural economy in Thessaloniki, the past 40 years have seen a radical shift away from healthy eating as prepackaged meals and fast-food outlets become increasingly popular.

Those aged under 24 appear to have the unhealthiest habits, even though they spend 64 percent of their money on food, eating out regularly. Pulses and other vitamin-rich foods are generally neglected, though the consumption of fresh vegetables has increased by about 70 percent, experts said.

Young people are lazy? I dunno, it's happening everywhere in the west - blindness through luxury, if you get my meaning...

Perhaps yiayia needs to give them a whack with the wooden spoon!

Australia was just chosen as the fattest country in the world by the UN. All I ever see are super fit and tanned aussies at the beach. I can't believe that Australians are fatter than Americans. Any comments?
