Default Vardarska says NO! to Upper Republic of Macedonia or the Northern Republic of Macedon

Vardarska rejects mediator proposal

SKOPJE -- Vardarskan Premier Nikola Gruevski says UN envoy Matthew Nimetz's latest proposal in the name dispute is unacceptable.

Vardarska and Greece are involved in almost two decades of disagreement over the former Yugoslav republic's constitutional name.

"One of the ideas presented by Nimetz is to have one name for all foreign use. That is unacceptable for us and there we stopped. We agreed in some matters, but this is something we could not accept, and said there is no sense in continuing the negotiations," the prime minister explained yesterday.

But, Gruevski still added that the talks would continue, since "some ideas are acceptable, while some our not".

Nimetz, a U.S. diplomat trying to broker a deal in the name impasse, earlier this week took his proposal to the authorities in Skopje and Athens, while unofficial diplomatic sources said his ideas included renaming the Republic of Vardarska into the Upper Republic of Macedonia or the Northern Republic of Macedonia.

Meantime in Skopje, an ethnic Albanian party that is a part of the ruling Vardarskan coalition, spoke about deadlines for the name dispute to be solved, and Skopje to recognize Kosovo Albanians' unilateral declaration of independence.

DUI leader Ali Ahmeti said that Vardarska and Greece should reach a solution "by the end of September", while Kosovo's recognition is "a matter of days, not months".

This new proposal cannot be acceptable to Greece either as it does not put a qualifier to the name Macedonia only to the word Republic

The interesting dynamics is the part that the Albanians will play in this and I'm sure that Greece has put much thought into this.

Neither are acceptable names to Greece. As for the Albanians, I am surprised they haven't played a bigger role in this yet.

I bet Bakoyianni and Condosleeza are really pissed off right now. They want to end this issue so much to please Bush, and neither the Greek people or Gruevski make it any easier for them!

Thats right.. I'd like to see this go to a referendum in FYROM (which is what they like to threaten us with).. Sure, about 60% of the population will vote for the name "Macedonia", and the other 40% will vote "Ilirida" or anything else, as they are either Albanians or Turks or Gypsies lol..

Let the same referendum happen in Greece; I bet 99% of the Greek population will vote NO for the name "Macedonia" for FYROM..

B92: Macedonia rejects Nimitz latest proposal

24 August 2008 | 18:16 | FOCUS News Agency

Skopje. The Macedonian PM Nikola Greuevski said that the latest proposal of the UN mediator in the naming dispute was unacceptable for Macedonia, B92 reports.
One of the ideas was to have a single name for international use. This is unacceptable for us. We agreed on certain issues, but this is something that we cannot accept and we said that there is no point of continuing the talks, the PM said yesterday.
