Bulgaria National TV Crew Arrested in Macedonia's Bitola

The three members of a crew of the Bulgarian National Television have been detained for several hours by the police authorities in Macedonia's city of Bitola on Friday.

The director Konstantin Chakarov and two operators were arrested while taking some views of the city over allegedly threatening the national security of the country, the statement of the officers read.

"We were filming views of Bitola from a high point to include them in our movies about the First and the Second Balkan Wars, when two patrols arrived, the policemen took our personal documents and started interrogating us," Director Chakarov explained.

"Then, they took the three of us to a police station and asked who we were, where we came from and watched all the video and picture materials we had shot," he added.

"Later, the Bulgarian consul to Bitola, Iliyan Karamanov, appeared and then they released us, seizing ten of the pictures that threatened Macedonia's national security as they showed a secret base," Chakarov ended.

The police caught them near the prison and according to Macedonian law - filming state prisons is illegal and forbidden and is considered as a threat to national security. The police seized ten of the pictures that threatened Macedonia's national security as they showed a secret base of the prison.

You can continue to post bullshit about democracy in Macedonia but this is the true version of this story. There were several other cases of arrested (macedonian) citizens who were filming the prisons and the military buildings. That is forbidden bu law and the law should be respected by everyone, including foreign citizens in Macedonia.

If it is so,then there have to be some warning signs.I know,f.i. that in Greece is forbidden the filming of several military camps but there are indeed warning signs everywhere around this area.Happens the same in your country or they were arrested just because they were Bulgarians?Anyway,i can't see how the filming of a prison can threaten the national security of any country,what so important could be hiden in a prison?
