Human rights violations persist in FYROMacedonia
The block heads have no right to criticize us!!!!
In the first half of 2008, NGOs report that most human rights complaints in Macedonia cite brutal beatings by urban intervention units -- Macedonia's Alfa and the Special Rapid Deployment Unit of the interior ministry.

A high number of police human rights abuses go unreported. Reasons vary, reflecting the public's lack of confidence in the police and judicial system.

Most discouraging is the low number of cases that go to court and an even lower number of rulings in favour of the plaintiff. Many victims are reluctant to sue because of personal or family fears or the threat of harassment. Notorious judicial inefficiency and massive bureaucracy also discourage individuals from seeking justice.

However, the All for Fair Trials Coalition, Citizens' Initiative Centre, Democratic Development and Election Centre and the Roma Women's Rights Forum Arka, in co-operation with the UN's Anti-Torture Committee, are some of the NGOs implementing a project to support human rights.

Since 2004, they have provided free legal assistance to victims. Assistance in filing complaints with the Internal Control Division of the interior ministry, meetings with the public ombudsman, filing of lawsuits, presentation of the necessary medical documentation in court and other activities are how NGOs assist victims.

"In 2006, 62 complainants reported bodily harm by the police, along with rude and unprofessional behaviour. In 2007, there were 51 cases of police abuse, and in the first half of this year, there were 27 new cases. Although we see a downward trend, it is still a long way from elimination," said Anica Tomic Stojkovska of the All for Fair Trials Coalition.

A meeting of Macedonia and France's ombudsmen, Idjet Memeti and Jean-Paul Delevoye, and the EU representative in Macedonia, Erwan Fouere, generated some statements that could serve as future guidelines for protecting human rights.

"Transparency is the most efficient tool against torture. When one is arrested, it shouldn't mean the loss of human rights. For example, in France, the ombudsman appoints citizens who inspect prisons and penal institutions weekly," said Delevoye.

"In this country, many reforms in justice, freedom and security are under way, but in order for real changes to occur, a shift must take place in the attitude of police officers, administration and prison personnel. An appropriate legal framework is of crucial importance, but real improvement will happen only when laws are upheld and when personnel practices and customs change," said Fouere.

The Internal Control Division of the interior ministry refused several opportunities to provide its view of the human rights situation.

Bulgarian officers arrested for espionage in Greece

2 Bulgarian officers and a Bulgarian citizen were convicted of espionage in Greece on Thursday after they had taken pictures of Greek army facilities in Evros nomarchy, Thrace, NE Greece.
In their possesion they were found photos of tens of military camps (and other installations not specified in the reports).

Western Thrace is the place where the largest concentration of the Greek Army is located.

Orestiada : The Greek authorities in the city of Orestiada have arrested three Bulgarians on espionage charge.

The Bulgarian nationals were caught taking photos of military sites in the region. A serviceman, servicewoman and a civil citizen took photos of dozens of Greek firing grounds and other military sites in the Evros Prefecture in Northern Greece. The three Bulgarians were detained after a serviceman noticed them on Tuesday at about 8.00 p.m.

Athens : A Bulgarian couple serving in the military was convicted of espionage in Greece on Thursday after being caught taking pictures of Greek army facilities near the border with Bulgaria, officials said, AFP reported. The Bulgarian officers were arrested at the border town of Ormenio on Monday after being spotted photographing an army camp, a Greek military source said. A digital camera confiscated from the couple was found to contain pictures of several military installations in the area. A judge in the main outlying city of Orestiada sentenced the unidentified couple, aged 36 and 35, along with their 46-year-old Bulgarian driver to 15 months in prison for espionage....

PS : The question is this: For who those spies worked for?
It supposed that Bulgaria is a member of EU and (soon) a member of NATO..

Any comment for this? When Macedonia arrested Bulgarian TV group, all of you blamed us.
And now? Is Greece to blame for this? Or is Greece protecting it's security?

Yeah, I have a comment for YOU IDIOT.

When you arrested the Bulgarian TV group, it was the Bulgarians (more specifically Bugarash) who brought up the issue.

When the Bulgarian military personnel were arrested for espionage in Greece, no Bulgarian mentioned the issue. YOU BROUGHT IT UP.

There are CLEAR differences between the two cases. The one in your lands was about a TV crew that - evidently - didn't try to disguise its' journalistic mission. Although you claimed that they "might" have been filming installations, it was never proven. They were released WITHOUT CHARGES (because you could not prove the charges).

The case in our lands was about MILITARY SERVICEMEN who were taking pictures of a MILITARY INSTALLATION in another country. They were BROUGHT TO COURT where they were sentenced ACCORDING TO THE GREEK LAWS. This was a CLEAR CASE OF ESPIONAGE or PLAIN STUPIDITY. The Bulgarians have refrained from commenting upon it, because the procedure was proper, not limited to arrests and detentions of hours that ended in no charges and no convictions. In our case, if the Bulgarians believe that they were treated unfairly, they can appeal either to Greek or to European courts, against the Greek courts' decisions and the relevant evidence...

Well, if you look at the facts: Two Bulgarian military officers taking pictures of Greek military camps next to our borders is not the same as a Bulgarian TV channel filming the mountain and a jail.

I've already said that its understandable to be troubled by filming a prison (for reasons in possible escapes).

But other than the fact that in both cases the people were arrested, these two incidents have nothing else in common

It seems to me that most of you are eather stupid or you just act like that.

1. The Bulgarian officers in Greece were taking pictures of a military base, they were arrested and sentenced according to GREEK law. Good.

2. The Bulgarian TV crew was taking pictures of a jail. That's why they were arrested, questioned, their photos were destroyed and they were let go. This was according to MACEDONIAN law.

It is clear that there is a difference in this cases.
1.But when Greece is acting according to it's laws and protecting it's interests, everything is ok.
2.When Macedonia is acting according to it's laws and protecting it's interests, then we get convicted for nationalism, hate, discrimination... etc.

Knock your heads and begin to use your brains. Don't just bark with useless posts, insults, groundless blaming,.... etc.
