| In 20-30 years, FYROM should join an Albanian confederation. Since they're a small nation to begin with, and with ~ 40% Albanian by then, squeezed by Serbia, Greece and Bulgaria this might be their best shot. Whatever "ethnicity" and heritage they choose would be guaranteed by law and as a nation that have the right to do so. Why not? Albania, Kosova and Fyrom in one decent state among other decent states. 1.5 million is too small to survive alone should NATO break down, and no one else has any significant minorities there. They are already looking at Durres port for their import/export and they are increasingly going to Albania for vacations. For them, Albanians might actually be the least hated or the lesser of 4 evils, in this tough neighborhood ![]() You would have Serbia (with part of Montenegro by then,) Albania, Greece...with Turkey watching to balance out any alliance. |

| Yeah and while you're at it, include Montenegro also.. why should those.. what is it? 600.000? have their own country.. the 10% (or is it smaller.. ahh who cares) Albanian population is entitled to join this confederation or isn't it? ![]()

Albanians are now in schools everywhere from Greek and Italian colleges to Harvard. It's just a matter of time and in 10 years no one will need to immigrate from Albania. By next year water + electricity + roads will be solved, making way for tourism and investments. With the world finally paying attention and keeping an eye on us it's just a matter of time. US and EU want the entire Europe together so they'll make room for small and not so polished countries. Re Fyrom: Since they have a major Alb population it makes sense. Otherwise, any split would be problematic as the Albanians refuse to go with anyone but Albania, and if the FYROM 'Macedonians' join Greece or Bulgaria they will be in a forced assimilation like the 'non-existant' minorities in Greece. Italy is the only one to have occupied areas of Albania more then Greece IIRC, especially Vlora. This would have given them full control of the Adriatic. Regarding Turkey: I think they will keep the 'Taliban' in check, they are very powerful when it comes to the military and if they become a bite more "islamic" in appearance they will still maintain a powerful enough role in the 'hood. With 70 million people you are bound to have a few million troublemakers. |
