On the other point: Albanians have no rational reason to do so, it will hurt the Albanian cause, while serving Serbia ('Albanians are troublemakers /Kosovo precedent' and Greece that wants FYROM to go. What would Albanians gain? Nothing they cannot get 10 years from now, when Albania is stronger. Greece on the other hand is handing out checks to Southern Albanians to say that they're Greeks, has not recognized Kosova, it is stirring trouble in Himara and wants Albania's Church leader to be a Greek, fully knowing the role that Greek church plays in Greek politics.
Greeks have invested in Albania but it isn't because of charity and they have no reason to deny Albania's NATO membership (you can't just say no when all others agree, it isn't as simple.) When Albania does something to protect it's nationality you return 100,000 immigrants as a warning.
FYI: Most Albanians view Greece as a much bigger threat and for a good reason. |
There are Greeks in Southern Albania, even before Greece handed out checksto them. Their contribution to the Greek soldiers against the Italian fascists during the WWII is not forgotten. You forgot to mention that while Greece hands out money to them, the Albanian state does something even worse to them: Repression, violence during past elections to preven Greeks from getting elected, e.t.c.
Greece has no obligation to recognize Kossovo. (I thought that the Serbs were calling it Kosova!)
Greece is not stirring trouble in Himara. There have not been any terrorist acts in Himara, neither any sort of armed rebellion.
Greece did not impose a Greek archbishop in Himara, the Patriarchate of Constantinople did so, and for good reason: The Christian church was persecuted during Hoxhas' regime and there were no Albanian bishops or priests that could be promoted to the position.
Greece does not invest. Greeks do. Of course, investment is no charity anywhere.
Greece could veto Albania just as Turkey vetoes Cyprus in NATO, but there was no reason for Greece to do so.
Greece, just as any other country in the world, has the right to return illegal immigrants to their country of origin at any time.
