I agree it should be the Central Balkan Republic or Federation. Or what about the United Balkan States. Or the Republic of Slavoalbanobulgaroserboturkogrecostan???

This means one of two things... Either the people pulling Nimetz's strings are once again underestimating the determination of Greece (which i do not find very likely) or They do not want the Republic of Skopje to enter EU and NATO... Don't ask me why, but this is the only conclusion one can come to if these names are true...

![]() The fact of the matter is that all his proposals have taken into consideration the Skopianese 'sensitive' points, but completely ignores the Greek ones

Nimetz Offers Ideas for Macedonia 'Name' 26 June 2008 Skopje _ The UN mediator in the name row between Greece and Macedonia has presented several ideas for a compromise solution during his trip to Athens. The United States diplomat Matthew Nimetz did not say whether his ideas contain a fresh Macedonia name proposal nor he give any details after he presented them to Greek Foreign Minister Dora Bakoyannis. The main element of the talks is to find a name and to determine the range of its use, Nimetz told media after the meeting saying that there were no discussions about Macedonian identity as it is not part of the United Nations-sponsored negotiations. Nimetz is to present his new ideas to Skopje as well during his visit on Friday when the US Deputy Assistant Secretary Rosemary DiCarlo is also expected to visit Macedonia. Local media reported that she will try to speed up the negotiations as part of a last ditch effort by the outgoing US administration to end the 17 year-long row. Greece insists that Macedonia should change its name arguing that it implies Skopjes territorial claims on Greeces own northern province of the same name. Skopje says it is ready to make a reasonable compromise in order to end the dispute as long as the Macedonian identity is not harmed. Greece on the other hand does not recognise a Macedonian identity different to that of Greek Macedonian. Meanwhile, Greek newspaper Eleftheros Typos on Thursday speculated that the names Northern, Upper or Vardar Macedonia are the most probable proposals that Nimetz is set to put on table. If a solution to the dispute is reached by July 9 Macedonia could still catch up with Albania and Croatia in its NATO accession. Zagreb and Tirana received invitations to join the military alliance in April but Macedonias invitation was blocked by Greece due to the unresolved row. Nimetz said that he does not see any deadlines including July 9 for solving the row. http://www.balkaninsight.com/en/main...AS1=1&ST_max=1

Name Talks Move to Macedonia 27 June 2008 Skopje _ The UN mediator in the name row between Greece and Macedonia is today meeting Macedonia's leaders in Skopje to discuss further ideas for a compromise solution. Matthew Nimetz is meeting Macedonias President Branko Crvenkovski and Premier Nikola Gruevski. His visit follows talks held yesterday in Athens with Greek Foreign Minister Dora Bakoyiannis, in which he said he presented several ideas for a compromise solution. He did not say whether these ideas contained fresh proposals for the name. US Deputy Assistant Secretary Rosemary DiCarlo is also visiting Macedonia today, the US embassy in Skopje confirmed. Local media report that she will try to speed up negotiations as part of a last ditch effort by the outgoing US administration to end the 17 year-long row over Macedonia's name. Greece insists that Macedonia should change its name arguing that its current name implies Skopjes territorial claims on Greeces own northern province of the same name. In April Athens blocked Skopjes NATO invitation and is threatening to do the same with its EU bid. Skopje says it is ready to make a reasonable compromise in order to end the dispute as long as the Macedonian identity is not harmed.
