Default Israel And The Fyrom Issue

Did Tel Aviv play any factors in the Fyrom issue from 1992 to the present.?

Any economic deals or military deals/consultations with the Fyrom in the past, present or future?

Any lobbying by Israel for Fyrom for its constitutional name ?

Any Protagonist/Antagonist ghosts of the past between Greece/Cyprus and Israel that affects the Fyrom issue?

Relations between Greece and Cyprus, and Israel are good (better than you'd expect) because of our geographical proximity (this is the official reason) and possibly due to the fact that the Greek church is the largest landowner in old Jerusalem. I wouldn't get overexcited though, Israeli-Turkish relations are better.

If Israel hasn't recognized FYROM's constitutional name choosing instead to follow standard UN practice, it's because they have nothing to gain from it.

does athens recognize jerusalem as Israel's capital? I know Mitsotakis(greece) recognized Israel in 1989.

The Turkish/Israei relationship is strong from the Ottoman days. Israel services Turkey's F16 electronics radars etc by ISD Israeli Defense indusries. Furhermore, Both countries had an airforce pact a few years back whereby each counry had a few jets and parking rights on each others turf to screw Syria in a future conflict. That Caspian oil pipeline was terminus at some boder town(Ishkandretta) on the Turkish side and coveted territory by Syria.

With Cyprus , there were those 2 Israeli spies that were caught by Cypriot security getting info on the Greek airforce staitoned in Limassol a few years back

Was wondering if israel was in tango with Turkey and sending military aid and advisors to Fyrom.(100,000 Turks in Fyrom supposedly,or are these the Torbeshi claimed as Turks)

Macedonia deepens relations with Israel

After the US, Macedonia has deepened bilateral relations with Isreal. In few days, the Government will open a communications office in Tel Aviv.

"With Israel we have rich cultural ties, as well as deep traditional ties between the Jewish and the Macedonian people, and because of this it was needed our relationship to evolve in different fields; education, economy, culture, agriculture, as well as increase our presence in Israel." said Government's spokesperson Ivica Bocevski.

We have chosen Tel Aviv for our diplomatic mission, and not Jerusalem, because most diplomatic offices are in Jerusalem, and also because we don't want involvement in the Israel-Palestinian dispute.

For first diplomat at the Macedonian Mission in Tel Aviv is chosen famous Diplomat and writer Pajo Avirovik.

Soon, is expected the Israeli Government to cancel visa requirements for Macedonian citizens, which has been held up for a year because of bearucratic procedures. Tel Aviv - Skopje charter flight will be established as well.

Samarina, Israel is a tiny country of 5 million people (half Greece's size). You shouldn't think of them as some kind of omnipotent force, they are a banana republic just like the rest of us whose number 1 priority is self-defence.

FYROM is irrelevant to all except those who want to annex (all or part of) it.

Greek companies and the gov is in the Fyrom oil business and balkan oil/gas pipeline affairs. maybe israel companies and their gov have a stake in AMBO or Kosovo(with the US base there) or Bulgaria.Maybe Fyrom politicians are being lobbied by israel.

I don't see what interest Israel could possibly have in the Balkans. AMBO doesn't transport oil to Israel and it is in Israel's interests that Kosovo does not go independent (Israel has a 20% Arab ethnic minority, significantly more if you count Palestinian citizens), that's why they haven't recognized Kosovo.

I know Israel and the Jews feature prominently in conspiracy theories, but in reality, their influence is limited.

You're right on every count. I have read even on this forum (but I can't remember where) articles by Isreali journalists and politicians who are whole-heartedly behind Greece so I guess the issue might be split there too. Israel has a much better history with Greece than it does with FYROM. We actually do have a history; Jews have always lived in Greece and compared to most places, relatively trouble-free. We stood up when no one else did and most Isrealis know this. As for FYROM, what exactly have they done to create ties with Israel. Israelis are not stupid; they will see who their real allies are and it's not FYROM (and it won't be Turkey once those moderate Muslims cement their power).
