Vlachs in FYROM (Split Thread)

Victor asked me about my trips to the mountain vlach town of Krousovo northeast of Monastiri(bitola).Last time i was there in early january.My parents speak the vlach dialect as the majority of the people in the town.All those vlachs came to krousovo after the destuction of the greekvlach town Mosxopolis in 1815.They feel greek but you can see in their eyes fear as they feel neglected for many decades from the greek goverment and the greek church.Romanian orthodox church is trying to approach them with the help of the fyromian goverment as they try to cut off any connection with their greek past.THey feel brothers with the rest greek vlachs in Macedonia and wish the greek goverment will look to them as hybernated greeks.And most of all they are pro greek in the name issue despite pressure from skopian elements in the town.

They are heroes !!! Maybe it's time that the greek government does something about them !!!

Many Vlachs as TB stated live in the Ohrid area to, but i think they are more dispersed then in Krushevo, they are well integrated in Ohrid's districts but as far as i know always refer themselves as Vlach..

Actually my mom does have some Romanian blood in her since her grandma was a aristocrat from Romenia but she always lived there and had no ties with Greeks, so not all the Vlachs from Fyrom are Greek Vlachs but come actually from Romenia to.

Romanian vlachs are different than greek vlachs....the greek vlachs in monastiri and krousovo are of greek backround and culture and has nothing to do with the romaniavlachs and the romanian propaganda.

I don't see why the Greek government doesn't expose and exploit this. Could you imagine, a hardcore Greek community inside the very place they praise as their where it all started

The government then should have started the same in FYROM as soon as FYROM tried to do it in Greece.

Difference was that we as members of the EU had to any minority that claimed as such...
The key here is that this so called minority has dismally failed.Fyrom doesn't have to answer to anyone yet......

Do they speak/write modern Greek? Are the individuals you have encountered "vlachs' or Aroumanians .

the suffix "a' means "not" or "opposite' hence, Not Romans" if they are Aroumans, Armani, then they probably consider themselves Ellenik (Romoisynee) with a second ( Latin based ) idom they have retained.

Romai don't have a problem in Metsovo or Samarina Greece or other places in the North and North west of Greece. They speak freely their second language of Aroumanian or their other languages like perhaps Russian,German, English. I don't understand why one would think the Greek Gov would treat one like rubbish if you spoke other languages,if your loyalty ,your ethnic hobby is first and foremost Greek.

Maybe some people you met were hardcore Tito,or Pro-Moscow commies and they still fear the ghosts of the past war.
