Default Macedonian Protests 1994

Hey all, I was just breezing along and noticed this hilarious (and as usual exaggerated) response to the 2 rallies held in Melbourne in 1994:

"XRVOL

Does anyone have any pics or news archives of the protest in 1994. I cant find it anywhere on the internet except a small article from The Age Newspaper stating there were 50,000 of us. I thought we had more there.

Apparantly greeks had protests as well does anyone know there numbers."

http://www.maknews.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1214

Last time I checked (and I was at that rally at the age of 14) the news mentioned that the Greek rally had about a 200,000 turnout compared to the Skopjeans (who of course had to copy) who had a turnout of 20,000... Anyone know if these are exact?

And of course, Melbourne started it, the rest of Australia followed on, then Canada and the US and finally the massive one in Thessaloniki which had a crowd of 1.5 million!!!

I think in Melbourne we have around 150k

typical deluded skop comment: 'I think the Greeks had a protest as well'

Anyone who questions whether or not Greeks around the world take the Macedonian issue seriously should just take a look at those photos or better yet, just ask a few of our countrymen. The Skopjeans should spend more energy trying to help their relatives in FYROM. As of now, Greece (the enemy and robber of their heritage (sic)) is their largest trading partner. Without the Greeks they would starve. How ironic.

I was in Athens at the end of 1992 start of 93 and they had a massive protest in Athens. 1 000 000 plus. Ill never forget that, no trouble either!

Yeah, you are probably right, the big ones in Melbourne and then in the US, Canada and finally Greece were held in 1992, some smaller ones followed in 1994...

I distinctly remember both protests in Melbourne like they were yesterday. The first was in February 1992 then the second in February 1994.

The numbers were about 80,000 for the the first one, followed by 100,000 for the second. When you consider the Greek community in Melbourne numbers around 200,000, 50% is a very good turnout.

Skopiani did turn out in numbers as well, as they pulled about 25,000 in Melbourne out of a population of 44,000. Australia wide they number 81,000.

Don`t forget the 50,000 greeks we had in Sydney out of a population of just over 100,000 Greeks here.
I remember the Greek paper saying 100,000 Greeks protest, the Aussie paper saying and I quote "35,000 Greeks in name march", i would say closer to 50,000 would be the correct number.
The news also mentioned at the time it was the biggest protest march in Sydney at that time since the Vietnam War marches.

Fair enough, I remember one news channel clearly stating that we got 150,000 in Melbourne and the other 200,000 so it was massive!
