Macedonian Secret Files Stolen And Given to Bulgaria?

All the data about secret agents, plans and current operations of the FYROMacedonian Security and Intelligence Agency have been stolen from the archives and given to Bulgaria.

This claims one of the most popular FYROMacedonian newspapers “Dnevnik”.

On its front page under a title “Our intelligence agents surrendered to Bulgaria”, the edition claims that a collaborator of the Security and Intelligence Agency has photocopied top secret data, ran away to Bulgaria a moth ago and has handed them in to the Bulgarian state security service.

Dnevnik newspaper basis its arguments on undisclosed sources from the FYROMacedonian Ministry of Interior and claims that the collaborator was an analyzer in the intelligence agency and a grandson of the former minister of interior of FYROMacedonia – Dosta Dimovska. At the moment she is director of the Macedonian cultural institute in Sofia.

The newspaper points out that an internal investigation in the FYROMacedonian intelligence under the code name “Sofia” is being conducted.

Dnevnik claims that the director of the Bulgarian state security service has called the FYROMacedonian director of the Security and Intelligence Agency to congratulate him that he was the first to give signal about the situation.

The missing files contain information about the FYROMacedonian intelligence network, for the restoration of which more than 20 years will be needed, adds the newspaper.

Makfax: FYROMacedonia's Interior Ministry refutes information confidential data given to Bulgaria

31 August 2007 | 17:55 | FOCUS News Agency

Skopje. The FYROMacedonian Ministry of Interior refuted the information published by some of the media, that confidential data from the intelligence was given to Bulgaria, the FYROMacedonian Makfax agency reported.
The Interior Ministry describes as “utter untruth and speculation” the information in today’s edition of the FYROMacedonian Dnevnik newspaper that an employee of the FYROMacedonian Security and Counterintelligence Directorate stole information from the intelligence and carried it to Bulgaria.
“The Interior Ministry will insist on uncovering the entire truth and on responsibility assumed by the people who are behind the spread of untruths among the public, which can harm the state’s security,” says the official statement by the Interior Ministry.
The Interior Ministry says “the publication of unchecked truths” can have possible negative consequences on the formation of the public opinion about FYROMacedonia’s security system, and leads to the devaluation of the work of the security structures, the agency adds.

It is about truths, not about framed-up scandal: journalist

31 August 2007 | 17:42 | FOCUS News Agency

Skopje. It is about a large scandal, which is one of the largest that happened in the recent period in the FYROMacedonian intelligence, journalist Alexander Damovski, director of the FYROMacedonian Vreme newspaper, told Focus News Agency on the phone from Skopje. He was commenting the publication in the Macedonian Dnevnik newspaper titled “Confidential data from FYROMacedonian counter-intelligence stolen and given to Bulgaria”.
“We still do not have official information from the government and the first person in the intelligence as to how they can explain it. In any case, however, it is about truths, and not about a framed-up or invented scandal,” the journalist added.
Asked whether the information was reliable, he said: “Yes, it is. The information that I have up to now (because I came across this case when I read the newspaper in the morning and unfortunately I did not have the information before that) makes me think this really happened. It is about a great leak in the FYROMacedonian intelligence and about responsibility to be assumed.”
“If it turns out everything – revealing reports, lists of people and collaborators, network of intelligence officers in and around FYROMacedonia- is true, it is probably about a serious danger,” Damovski added.

I do not have relatives in FYROMacedonian Interior Ministry or counterintelligence: Dosta Dimovska

31 August 2007 | 15:15 | FOCUS News Agency

Sofia. I do not have a nephew who is working in the FYROMacedonian Interior Ministry or counterintelligence, Dosta Dimovska, head of the FYROMacedonian cultural and information center, told Focus News Agency regarding a publication in the Macedonian Dnevnik newspaper according to which confidential data from the archive of the FYROMacedonian counterintelligence was stolen and given to Bulgaria.
“The main suspect is I.S. He worked as an analyzer in the FYROMacedonian counterintelligence and is nephew to the former Minister of Interior Dosta Dimovska,” the newspaper writes.
Dimovska flatly denied the information.
“I do not have any relatives in these departments,” she said.
“I am surprised at the publication. The official institutions should rule,” she added.
Dimovska specified she does not principally have a nephew with the initials I.S.

Dnevnik, FYROMacedonia: Confidential data from FYROMacedonian counter-intelligence stolen and given to Bulgaria

Skopje. All data about secret agents, allies, plans, current stocks and other secret data of the FYROMacedonian Security and Counterintelligence Directorate (UBK), have been stolen from the archive, FYROMacedonian newspaper Dnevnik writes, citing sources from FYROMacedonian Ministry of Interior. An officer of the UBK who run away from Bulgaria a month ago had sneaked into the archive of the counter-intelligence service. He had managed to secretly record the confidential data from the main PC.
According to information from the newspaper he had given the data to the Bulgarian services. The FYROMacedonian Ministry of Interior announced Thursday there were no signals reported about such a theft.

Hey Bugarash, how does Dnevnik know that "...the Bulgarian state security service has called the ********* director of the Security and Intelligence Agency to congratulate him..."

Maybe the undespicable country has a secret agent working within the Bulgarian secret services, and who is also planning to get even by stealing the Bulgarian secrets? Maybe Dnevnik itself has a secret agent in there? Or maybe a fella from the unnamed peoples' republic has lost a member of their secret services to Bulgarian citizenship, and that's all the deal?

C'mon, you can't be serious about secret agencies and spies in todays' terms. Although the Balkans are not the most democratic region upon earth, the societies are sufficiently open not to require spies to get information. In the information era, the internet is more than enough for spying.

It's just that some people cannot shake off the Cumminist era from their mind. Their brain has been left behind the Iron curtain for eternity. Maybe a new generation could see things with a really open mind.

Macedonian newspapers are not the best example of professional journalism... Well, they are professional, but in a different area.

The whole story sound implausible. How did this agent pass through the several barriers in compound which has guards and surveillance equipment? Are all files kept in a single computer? Was he of such a high rank that he had passwords for that computer? The selection of the data to copy is a mind-boggling task which would take quite a lot of time even for computer expert.

The idea of a renegade, expelled agent who popped in bypassing the security rings, got to the main computer, got to the data files, prepared them for burning on a CD/DVD writer or whatever, perhaps enjoyed a cup of espresso, and than silently locked the office and disappeared, out of the building and right into the street jungle looks to me like a scene from some Turkish B movie(the name is Bond..Mustafa Bond)
