so the big bad Greeks have agents at Ellis island immigration now?Before the 1840s barely virtually no Slav, except the most educated, would have known of the word Macedonia. By 1911, we can see the influence of Cvijic, Russian and Bulgarian geopolitics politics and the rise of a strong Macedonian regional identity. I can just imagine them standing in the queue, asking them what their country was and saying Macedonia but old man Stefov then realising he meant which ethnicity he belonged to and adding Bulgarian. As for the idea about adding the word Bulgarian later, I think you should contact Ellis Island about it and have the record destroyed.
