Default Official and unofficial use of the Vergina sun in FYROM

meaning used in other ways despite obviously not being able to use it as their national flag. A huge number of FYROM municipalities use the symbol as part of their insignia officially as the banned flag (yellow Vergina with red background) being used "unofficially".

Here is the insignia of the municipality of Demir Hissar. So a town with a Turkish name using a rather lunch-upbrining insignia which combines old communist themes with the Sun of Vergina:

Demir Hisar (Municipality, Macedonia)

Municipality of Illinden

Ilinden (Municipality, Macedonia)

Gjorče Petrov

Heres a whole list of Municipality flags for FYROM:

Macedonia: Municipal flags

Some of them are a real laugh, like this old communist one:lol:

The municipalities that had a VMRO-DPMNE majority started using the Vergina after FYROM changed the official flag because they didnt accept that their goverment agreed to stop using a hellenic symbol as their official flag.

Quote:
Since its creation as a state in 1945, the Republic of Macedonia has used three flags.
The first flag dates back to 1945 and the People's Republic of Macedonia, part of the People's Federative Republic of Yugoslavia; it is red with a red five-pointed star outlined in yellow in the canton.
The "Sun of Vergina" flag, dated 1992, is red with a yellow 16-pointed sun, that Greece claimed is the "Sun of Vergina", found on the sarcophagus believed to belong to Filip, King of Macedonia.
After the controversy with Greece, the flag was replaced in 1995 by the present one, called the "Macedonian Sun", again yellow on red. The (then) biggest opposition party VMRO-DPMNE did not accept this change and continued to use the old flag, which was flown in every municipality with a VMRO-DPMNE majority in its councils, till the local election in 1998

Then you have the Skopjan Churches in Sydney which still use the flag which FYROM agreed to stop using. I've read from other threads here that the Skopjan church in Rockdale, Sydney uses it and I saw it for myself outside a Skopjan church in Cabramatta. I'd be interested in documenting these abuses if I have some time in the future.

The Makedonian governmant has made 2 GREAT COMPROMISES:

1) Changed the Flag..
2) Changed the preamboula of the constitution...
3) Changed the money containing the white tower....

But guys, I don't think they'll change their name...
It is their identity...

On 24 February 1999, in an interview with the Ottawa Citizen, Gyordan Veselinov, FYROM'S Ambassador to Canada, admitted, "We are not related to the northern Greeks who produced leaders like Philip and Alexander the Great. We are a Slav people and our language is closely related to Bulgarian." He also commented, “There is some confusion about the identity of the people of my country."

This Skopjian news site reports on the 10/4/08 that the city of Ohrid has begun using the red and yellow flag throughout its city in reaction to the Greek "veto" of FYROM's NATO accession:
