Let's be realistic my friends.
Our previous Greek governments have already betrayed us and the future compromise to this issue will most certainly involve the word "Macedonia" in their country name.
The ultimate solution must be accepted from both sides, and neither one of us will be happy in the end.
We may have to accept "Slav-Macedonia", because it clearly states their Slav nationality which is seperate from the ancient Hellenic Macedonians.
This is all we can hope for providing that the Greek administration does not get bought off or blackmailed into accepting anything else.
There is a danger in vetoeing any resolution in the international forum as we may be seen as bullies and hard-liners to the rest of the world which would win sympathy for the FYROMians.
The investments should stay, because let's keep in mind that big businesses have a large amount of influence in any capitalist country.

It's one hell of a mess this situation, and it's only going to get worse before we get out of it.

Why should Greece keep investing in Fyrom, while they just keep stabbing us in the back. Greece are the idiots here, their only worried about their money.

Do you think Greece would ever consider going to war with Fyrom?

Nope. That is in a way what they want. Their hopeless victim mentality will scream out to the world how we are the big bad bullies and if it wasn't for us, the whole world would be speaking their language and teaching about how it is their culture that was spread to the world. Greece must hold firm, and not be obnoxious like them. As for what Torontezos said about big business, so true. Money talks. Plain and simple.

And in addition, if Greece invades, most of the international Press will have headlines like: "Greece invades Macedonia", "Greece tries to reclaim Macedonia" etc which is all lies, because we all know that Macedonia was, is and will be in Greece!

Good possible names:

Vardaska: It's previous name
Central Balkan Republic: It's geographical position
Vardar Republic: Even if I don't like this, since Vardar is the river Axios in Bulgarian. It's a suitable name anyway
Yugoslavia: I think it stands for United Slavs, which is the truth about that country. Serbia, Croatia, Bosnia, Slovenia, Montenegro etc will complain, but we shouldn't care.
Balkania: Even if it stands for something it's not, it is the central Balkanian land, and they will be pleased to be "gifted" that remark. Other Balkan states may complain, but it's better to call them Balkania than something not worthy of them, Macedonia.
Dardania: Even if they are not descendants of Dardanians(a few are), it's the land they are on! It's not Macedonian land, it's Dardanian! Dardanians have fled to Illyria and some less to the north after the Slavic invasions, so Dardanians are now Albanians!!!
Serbobulgar(Bulgaroserb) Republic: Not gonna happen, but it's the only mixture of blood that happened over the years there! Neither Serbia nor Bulgaria will accept the name.
Skopje (Republic): Panama, Luxembourg, Mexico, El Salvador and some other countries have their capitals' names the same as the countries and vice-versa. Why shouldn't they?

To answere Greece2006's question, no I don't think Greece would ever go to war with FYROM any time soon.
Unlike the US, war is not that profitable for us.
However, keeping investments in FYROM can only help our cause as these large business will be sympathetic to our point of view and slowly but surely (could take years, could take generations) the nationalistic hardliners in FYROM will eventually lose support.
Keep the investments, excercise as much control and influence over their economy as we can, remember: Keep your friends close, your enemies even closer.

I totally agree with you!
Greece has invested a lot of money there. It is not wise to withdraw all investment because of a name dispute. I think that if we help them become stronger financially then the living standards will rise, people will be more educated and they will understand that they are wrong.Irredentism and povery/misery usually go together.
The axiom of Greece in foreign politics is no more wars in our neighbourhood.
We are not some kind of wicked Nazis to go to a war over a name dispute!
The dispute will be solved by means of diplomacy and economy.

@kipros_Elliniki
Dardania is already in use by some Albanian nationalists for Kossovo
Using the name Yugoslavia is again like stealing the history of another people,of the Serbs because Serbia is the successor state of Yugoslavia.
Vardaska, vardar republic and skopje are good names!
