...By conventional standards, Kemal Ataturk was hardly an admirable character. He was a bitter, sullen and ruthless man, a two-fisted drinker and a rake given to shameless debauch. Politically, though he proclaimed a Bill of Rights, he flouted it constantly; though he talked of loyalty, he hanged his closest friends. He was devoid of sentiment and incapable of love, unfaithful to everyone and every cause he adopted save one-- Turkey. But before he died, his driven, grateful people thrust on him the last and greatest of his five names: Ataturk, Father of All the Turks.
The Father of All the Turks (who left no legitimate heirs) was born in 1881 in Salonika, then part of the Ottoman Empire, of a mild Albanian father and a forceful Macedonian mother. Mustafa was a rebel from the start. His pious Mohammedan mother urged him to become a holy man, but he became a soldier; at 22, a captain, he rebelled against the Sultan and was nearly executed; at 27, he joined the Young Turks rebellion, then rebelled against the Young Turks. The army, fearful of him, shunted him from post to post, but could neither shake him nor subdue him. At Gallipoli, in 1915, he defeated the British; in the Caucasus, he checked the Russians; in Berlin, 1918, he drunkenly needled the high panjandrum of his allies, Field Marshal von Hindedburg; in Arabia, 1918, he held off T. E. Lawrence's Bedouin hordes. At 38, he came out of the crash of the Ottoman Empire the only Turkish commander untouched by defeat.

Newsflash!! New Albanian discoveries

JESUS CHRIST WAS CRUCIFIED BY..ILLYRIAN SOLDIERS

Quote:
Jesus Christ might have been crucified by the Illyrian soldiers who predominated in the famous Roman Praetorian Guard. According Edwin E. Jacques who in the book "the Albanians" page 139 writes: First, when the Roman provincial governor Pilate turned Jesus Christ over to the soldiers for crucifixion, they “led him away into the hall called Praetorium, and called together the whole band” (Gospel of Mark, 15:16). The brutal soldiery mocked, abused and finally crucified their captive. And it was one of them who at Christ’s death voiced what others of their number must have concluded by then: “Truly this man was the son of god!” (Mark, 15:39).”
Some years later the elite Illyrian guardsmen had another excellent opportunity to hear the message of Christ from the Apostle Paul (Apostle Paul will visit Albania in the A.D. 59)
My fave pet Edwin Jacques never fails to amaze me!!!

NAPOLEON IS...ALBANIAN

Quote:
Dr Gezim Alpion (The University of Birmingham, UK) claims that Napoleon is Albanian:

According to the well-known French memoir writer Laure Junot, Duchess d’Abrates (nee Permon) (1784-1838), the renowned French statesman and historian Adolphe Thiers (1797-1877), and the French linguist and ethnographer Robert D’Angely (1893-1966) Napoleon Bonaparte also is of Albanian origin. The three French authors maintain that Napoleon came from the Albanian community in Corsica. Albania’s defeat by the Turks in the latter part of the fifteenth century caused an Albanian exodus of Biblical proportion towards the West. Napoleon’s ancestors are thought to have moved from Albania to Mani in Southern Greece before immigrating to Corsica.

Napoleon was of Albanian blood....his ancestors moved from Albania as Arvanites in Mani ( an albanian pasha of the turk empire wrote him a letter, "to make him remember his blood and to save the albanian nation from the turks")
His family than had moved to Korsika and his original surname was Kalemiri / Kallomiri ---> Bona parte.
When Napoleon invaded Europe, he put his family members as Kings of the European doll Kingdoms. His brother was made the king of Napoli, and in one time when the arberesh/arvaniti/albanians of the south Italy ( those who had escape from albania and greece by the invasions of the turks) went to make greetings to the new king, he said that his family was arberesh as origin too.

May be those soldiers were Illyrians.
there is no one great empire that had existed over Balcans that hadnt as its greatiest soldiers Ilirians, arberesh, and albanians.
-the praetorium Guard was made especialy by Illyrians
-the Latin Lords in Greece after the Crossiates , wanted to have arberesh (the todays arvanitis, for this there are hundred of sources)soldiers to protect and to make wider their new dominations
-in the otoman empire, every one , without making an academy or a university, could have the posibbility to be a Vezir and other great positions in the administrate and army. 25-28 of its Vezirs were albanian.Thousands of others ruled in that empire....thats why greeks hate us so much, they have been always servers and humiliated ( by this albanians ).
- Mehmet Ali Pasha and Ibrahim Ali of Egipt were albanians.
-Ali Pasha Tepelena (more than albanian)
-It has been an arberesh Pope and a prime minister of the born Italy.
-Garibaldi was also arberesh.
