 Cyprus and the EU presidency. Guys, has any one of you any idea of what will happen between EU and Turkey when Cyprus become a member of Troika and particularly when Cyprus become the presiding country of EU? I mean Turkey should have to deal with the cypriot governenment which by the way doe not recognise. Any information that you can provide regarding this issue?

| It seems that normally Cyprus's turn to lead the EU won't be until the second half of 2012. However, the Treaty of Lisbon signed last December will have been implemented by then and that provides for a person not a country holding the presidency. Under the new treaty the president will hold office for two and a half years and be chosen by EU governments (majority required, not unanimity). He'll probably always be some retired politician from West Europe (Blair has been mentioned, yuck!). |
