The Vardar gate was built of massive stone and spanned the Egnatian way where it entered the city of Thessalonica from the west. An important inscription from it, now on British museum, is dated between 30 BC - 143 AD. As always it is written in Greek.

So will the Skops say Greek commandos entered in stealth to the British museam, erased all the Slav on the stone and quickly chiselled Greek in while the guard was on a piss break?

The Gate of Vardar insctiption names 6 dignitaries designated as Politarhs, the same term used by Lukas in Acts 17:6-8. When Macedonia was divided into four districts (167 BC), Thessalonica was made the capital of the second division. Its influence continued to grow when the area became a Roman province. In the second civil war between Caesar and Pompey (42 BC), Thessalonica remained loyal to Antony and Octavian and was rewarded by receiving the status of a free city. This gift of independence allowed the city to appoint its own magistrates, who were given the unusual title of politarchs. The historical accuracy of Luke is seen in the fact that while the term “politarch” does not appear in earlier Greek literature, it is used in Acts 17:6-8 (http://www.christianimagelibrary.com/stock_image_ar.php?book=ACTS&chapter=17&verse=6&img_id=17214&action=bible) and has been found on an inscription on the Vardar Gate and in other inscriptions from the area. Another evidence that show the Greek presence during the Roman period.
