We talk for Skopjans and Chams. But I think forgot the Turks in Thrace.
Gumuljina was a small republic that occupied Western Thrace (http://www.answers.com/main/ntquery?method=4&dsid=2222&dekey=Western+Thrace&curtab=2222_1) from July 28 (http://www.answers.com/main/ntquery?method=4&dsid=2222&dekey=July+28&curtab=2222_1) until September 16 (http://www.answers.com/main/ntquery?method=4&dsid=2222&dekey=September+16&curtab=2222_1), 1913 (http://www.answers.com/main/ntquery?method=4&dsid=2222&dekey=1913&curtab=2222_1). The country was created during the Balkan Wars (http://www.answers.com/main/ntquery?method=4&dsid=2222&dekey=Second+Balkan+War&curtab=2222_1) by an ethnic Turk rebellion against occupying Bulgarian (http://www.answers.com/main/ntquery?method=4&dsid=2222&dekey=Bulgaria&curtab=2222_1) and Greek (http://www.answers.com/main/ntquery?method=4&dsid=2222&dekey=Ottoman+Greece&curtab=2222_1) forces in that area. Soon after, the Bulgarians lost the war and the Greeks took over Western Thrace. Today, the area is part of Greece (http://www.answers.com/main/ntquery?method=4&dsid=2222&dekey=Greece&curtab=2222_1).Gumuljina is the turkish name of Komotini (http://www.answers.com/main/ntquery?method=4&dsid=2222&dekey=Komotini&curtab=2222_1).

Don't the Turks refer to Salonica as "Gumulcine" and Xanthi as "Iskece?"

The difference Morphesau is that we have no population in Eastern Thrace whereas there are many Turks in Western Thrace. However, in the event of a Greek-Turkish war, Thrace would be the battle ground and Greece would have a chance at Eastern Thrace and the Turks would have a shot at Western Thrace
nsminc, they refer to salonika as Selanik.

Today's Komotini was referred to as Κομοτζηνα and Κουμουτζηνα in Byzantine sources. The Turkish name 'Gümülcine' is simply a variation of the latter, much in the same way as 'Salonika' becoming 'Selanik' in Turkish.

Taikou is right. Kumutzinoi was the name of Byzantine rulers of the area.

Philip the known Greek historian Konstantinos Vakalopoulos(his father was the Apostolos) mention that the establishment of the Republic of Gumuljina (http://www.macedoniaontheweb.com/forum/thrace/595-republic-gumuljina-post6592.html) was a revolt against the BULGARIANS.The main ethnic groups were Pomaks and Turkish. We had also Greek participation in the region of the Alexandroupolis.I had tried to find more historical informations but without success.Of course Turkish try to play political and historical games.

Thanks. That helps. However, the land is still traditionally Greek.

Exactly, and the site which you quoted at the beginning was simply wrong. The Bulgarian-Turkish revolt against the Greeks was the one from 1920,not this one.
The main ethnic groups were Pomaks and Turkish. We had also Greek participation in the region of the Alexandroupolis.
That is because the revolt extended up to today's Zlatograd and Kurdzhali in Bulgaria. If it was only in today's W.Thrace & E.Thrace, the majority would have been Turks and Greeks.
I had tried to find more historical informations but without success.Of course Turkish try to play political and historical games.
This theme is still sensitive in Greece and Bulgaria,so I don't think you can find much more information. If you can read Turkish, there are abundance of articles, but they are....

Garbi Trakya Hukumet -i Muvakattesi (1913), Προσωρινή Kυβέρνηση Δυτικής Θράκης (1913)
ΠOΛITIKH IΣTOPIA - XPONOΛOΓIO:
Kardjali) μεταξύ 16 και 19 Aυγούστου 1913.
Aμέσως μετά, ίδρυσαν με κέντρο την Γκιουμουλτζίνα την Προσωρινή Kυβέρνηση Δυτικής Θράκης (Garbi Trakya Hukumet -i Muvakkatesi).
Aλεξανδρούπολη).
