Excavations for Thessaloniki's metro line have revealed more than 1,000 graves, some filled with jewellery, coins and art, the Archaeological service in Greece said.

The great majority of the graves, 886, were found just east of the centre of Greece's second largest city, at the site of a cemetery during Roman and Byzantine times.

A second group of 94 graves were found near the city's train station.

I believe they found the remains of the great grandchildren of Aleksandar Makedonski. They came to that conclusion based on the lego shaped heads and archaic shopski writtings on their tombs.
