Alexander The Great" Marathon (ATGM) is a new marathon held for the first time this year, in Thessaloniki/Greece, on April 16th 2006.
It is inspired by the legendary Macedonian King Alexander, one of the mos important personalities in Ancient Greece. The race starts from Pella, Alexander's birthplace and finishes in Thessaloniki, the second largest city in Greece, 42.2km away
The new event has already obtained AIMS certification for its distance accuracy.

What a great idea for Alexander's memory. After all, he led more Hellenes farther than just about any other we know of. Bravo to the organizers and to the people who thougth of it.

2nd International Marathon "Alexander the Great" announced
The race will take place on April 1st 2007

The marathon, a race distinguishing genuinely the uneasy spirit of freedom of Ancient Greece, emerges also this time to pass the message of Greece on to the whole world. Alexander the Great Marathon unites the past with the present, crossing via 42 km more than 2500 years of the history of Macedonia and of Hellenism.
