here is another example of the hate against us Greeks that we have to face by the Skopjeans (and through this we can see their ulterior motives)...

"Dear ALL

You need not fear, the P O P is back. Its pleasing to see that the movement is still running strong under the guidance of my @#%$. I've been in Macedonia, namely -- the AEGEAN SECTION and just returned.

Our people are in serious strife up there, especially LERIN. We are definitely losing the battle, and need to make the world aware that the people in the northern prefectures of occupied Aegean Macedonia (namely, Lerin, Kostur, Grevana, Voden, Katerini) have been brainwashed. THEY THINK THEY ARE GREEK, and refuse to speak our language. I converse with them in Greek and they are all ears, the moment the Macedonian comes out, they struggle to understand me, and really do not recognise or support the annexation of AEGEAN MACEDONIA to the Republic of Macedonia. They have this ridiculous view that the Republic of Macedonia is filled with peasants and not structurally viable as a state.

I had many conversation with members of the ouranio toxo (the rainbow party in florina) www.florina.org and have been told the reason for such a backlash towards our people is that they do not care about nationalism and just want to live a lie. They were very impressed with my passion for a united Macedonia and stressed that the only way such a plan could be achieved would be through strong financial and moral support from the AEGEAN, PIRIN, and VARDAR Macedonians of abroad. Namely Australia, the US and Canada.

The movement needs support for these occupied areas and must be educated on all issues Macedonian before its too late. Dig Deep Macedonians and promote the annexation of AEGEAN MACEDONIA to any person, government minister, or newspaper that you know of. WE MUST STOP THE OPPRESSION. My people have become GREEKS and it makes me SICK!! Their national consciousness is no longer Macedonian. Although the older people know the language (40+), they are living a Greek way of life. STAND UP MACEDONIANS AND HELP YOUR FELLOW PEOPLE. THEY NEED US NOW MORE THAN EVER!! WE ARE DOOMED OTHERWISE!

Commander and Chief"

I am very troubled to read this. I am even more troubled everytime I read about Slavs refering to themselves as Macedonian and the hate they are generating towards Greeks. This is insulting to all Greeks, especially Macedonians, as Macedonians are the Greeks who are threatened the most.

This tactic of going on the offensive and deflecting truths is ridiculous. Here they talk about Aegean Macedonia and how it is occupied, an outright lie. The reality is that the samll portion of Skopville that is geographically Macedonia, ie Pelagonia, should actuallybe part of Greece. The Grek governmet neither seeks it, or starts a hate campaing, so that peace remains in the Balkans. By birthright, we do have a claim to it. No we should go to war for it, but my point is the defelcting and the distorting of histical facts. Instead of being ontnhe defensive, or a peace, they go on the offensive, stating we are evil fascist overlords, and try and pick a fight. This is a very dark and dishonest tactic. The only thing I want in Pelagonia is for our people left htere, to be allowed to be Greek without being persecuted and even killed. No to taking it by force. Yes to being aware of our culture, history and people.

By using the geographical term 'Macedonia', the expansionists in Skopje have always sought to convert that term into a national name for a Slav nation. In the course of that process, they have also attempted to deprive the Greek people of its lawful rights over a considerable portion of its cultural identity. For 45 whole years, the name Macedonia has become the principal means for promoting the territorial and cultural expansion of Skopje at Greece's expense.

Today, Greece has many serious reasons for refusing to recognise the so-called 'Socialist Republic of Macedonia'. The most important of these reasons are as follows:

First, the fact that for forty years Skopje was the leading edge of Tito's policy of expansion: a policy which in other respects relied on a simplistic and ignorant view of the history of the area. This, with justice, creates a feeling that expansionist designs on Greece are being harboured.

Second, the claim made by Skopje that "the whole of Macedonia has never been liberated" and that "only that part of it which is controlled from Skopje" is free, is an indirect but clear questioning of Greek sovereignty.

Third, the use by Skopje of the denomination of Greek Macedonia is also a questioning of Greek sovereignty, especially in conjunction with Skopje's persistent refusal to accept the placenames used in the area since the Balkan Wars.

Fourth and last, by using the name Macedonia Skopje is lodging a cultural claim against Greece, since what is geographically 'Macedonian' is being appropriated so as to turn it into 'nationally Macedonian'.

Alexander the Great is a key figure for Macedonian cultural heritage. His legend survived both the Christian rule of the Byzantine Emperors and the Muslim rule of the Ottoman Sultans. His extraordinary abilities and unprecedented military achievements inspired the peoples of the Balkans, Asia Minor, and the Near East as far as Afghanistan before and after the creation of nation-states. However, only the Greeks can argue convincingly that Alexander was an authentic product of the Greek classical era, a king who traced his origin to the Ancient Greek Heroes and shared the culture of the Greek city-states. At the head of a united Greek expeditionary force, spear headed by the elite Macedonian army, he brought the Greek culture to the fringes of India and has justifiably been used for centuries as a symbol of Greek civilisation.

You are spot on right. Furthermore, I'm concerned if their is a Slavification of the remaining Greeks in the area. Lets be realistic, this is probably happening, at least to a degree, but who knows for sure? If they choose them, so be it, but I'm concerned at the historical inaccuracies and the appropration of our Macedonian culture they are fed and then their chose is made on lies.

To all Aussie Greeks,is it true that there have been instances where the contents of books have been ripped out because of the evidence supporting the Greekness of ancient Macedonia?

Because my great grandparents were thrown out of their home by the Bulgarian VMRO half Turk Goce Delchev. They had to move south of the border and now you come and throw this garbage at me and all the Macedonians? Glupost!!!!!!"

Not that I have heard however I am 30 years old and havent been to school for a long time. i did however go to my local library and went through some of the current textbooks they use in Ancient history in high school...and they all refer to Ancient Macedonia as Greek. Afterall any academic worth the title couldnt possibly teach it any other way.

New Macedonia is what it is.

The point is that they don't accept this NewMacedonia name.

The point is that you call them Macedonian.
How do you call us Greeks of Macedonia? Do you see any confusion with Pan-Macedonian Union of USA ??

Ilir dear, when a coutry gets a name in UN, then it gets an adjective for exclusif use. If the country is named Macedonia then the adjective will be Macedonian and no country on Earth could use this name ANY MORE, including Greece. This means that we should rewrite history, geography, administration, identity, .... and abort Macedonian fame and glory. Well, we Greeks don't want this.

So, if you are really Greek, respect your Macedonian brothers.
