Not sure if any of you guys are from Sydney.
The FYROM Orthodox church in Rockdale has a picture of a map as soon as you walk through the front doors. And guess what the first thing you see upon entering?
A massive map of you guessed it, FYROM, parts of Bulgaria and ofcourse Mecdonia Northern Greece, including Thessaloniki.
For the likes of Nikos, who I have had the pleasure of reading some of his posts on this forum, I would be interested in seeing how he would react to this. nikos has mentioned thet the Greeks overseas over-react to the Macedonian issue unlike the Greeks in Hellas.
unfortunately for us Greeks in the Diaspora, especialy Australia, Canada, USA we are the ones who are confronted with these antagonistic acts. Obviously this wouldn`t happen in Greece.
How great is it to see the homeland of your parents being drawn on a map belonging to another country
Anyone else part of the diaspora or Greece have any simular situations they have encountered?

Fortunately for me and for most of the Greeks here in Montreal, nothing.

Only once on the highway I saw a car with a sticker with the letters "MAC" on it.I'm almost sure it was a skop and felt like running him off the road. But that's about it.

I'm sure it's a different story for the the Greeks in Toronto.

I guessed it would only be the Greeks in Australia and Canada that have this issue.

Not true my friend, the Greek-American diaspora is really dedicated to this cause. The U.S. Senate recognized and commanded FYROM to stop the spread of hurtful propoganda towards Greece. Also 13 states have recognized that Macedonians are Greek. We the Hellenes of America will never stop pushing the issue.

The problems with Greeks in Greece is that they see themselves more as Europeans and are forgetting their own history in return they are conscribing to a "united European " geopolitical view. It is the job of the Greeks of the diaspora to fight to keep our distinct Hellenic culture alive.

Zefs

I`m aware of the great work the Hellens in the USA are doing for Greece and on the Macedonian issue.
i`m not aware though of the Skopiani community in the US, how well it is organised and if it ever has friction with the Greek community.
I can tell you my next door neighbours are Skops so our people do cross all the time.
In saying that there are alot of good ones out their who don`t care about the politics and are realy nice people.
Over 10 years ago their were mass protests in Australia, particularly melbourne and Sydney. A number of firebombings of businesses and churches resulted after this for both communities so the extremists are out there.

Personaly I believe that the Greeks of the Disapora make better job from the domestic Greeks regarding the National issues.
Zeefs you are right about the European behaviour of the domestic Greeks, specially in the late decade, but consider that many Greeks coloborate with the neigboors in the Financials sectors
