Regarding the albums of Macedonian Music which are uploaded by Amarantos throughout this thread, these are the instructions in Greek and English for obtaining the passwords to the .rar files:


Each album has its own password.

To the members of the forum the password will be provided after request to me via pm.

Guests interested in traditional and folk macedonian music will have to join (http://www.macedoniaontheweb.com/forum/register.php) the macedoniaontheweb.com community.

The new members signing up for the music files will receive the passwords only after having published at least five (5) posts that do not constitute spam,

to the various forum threads.

You can begin by introducing yourselves to other members here (http://www.macedoniaontheweb.com/forum/general-chit-chat/339-new-members-please-introduce-yourselves-here.html). Once having published five (5) posts, as all other members after contacting me via pm you

will be provided with the password.

Users intending to troll / spam the forum with non constructive posts, or have any kind of inappropriate attitude, can abstain from asking and consequently getting any

The Greek Revolution in the city of Naousa in west Macedonia under Zafyrakis Theodosiou Logothetis,Anastasios Karatasos,Aggelis Gatsos and others, is suppressed by the Ottomans.The town is captured on April 1822 by Mehmed Emin Ebu Lubut Pasha.Thousands are slaughtered,women and children are captured to be sold as slaves,while most of the surviving rebel leaders leave to continue the fight in southern Greece.
This traditional song describes the aftermath of the suppression of the Greek Revolution in Macedonia,western macedonia and the peninsulas of Mount Athos and Kassandra in Chalkidiki.

On September 8,1821 the Revolutionaries Georgakis Olympios and Ioannis Farmakis,vlachophone Greeks from the region of Macedonia are surrounded by the Ottomans in Sekou Abbey in north Moldavia near the boundaries with Austria.Olympios explodes the bell-tower of the abbey killing along with the surrounded Greek fighters of his force,their Ottoman persecutors.Farmakis surrenders with his 142 fighters after the guarantees given by the Austrian consul Udrischi,and the promise of the latter to permit them to go to AustiaHungary.The Turks don't respect the pact,decapitate all Greek fighters except Farmakis who is sent in Constantinople as a gift to the Sultan.There he will die skinned.
This traditional song narrates the story of the two Macedonian Revolutionaries until the moment they find themselves trapped in the monastery of Sekou.

When on 1807 Russia's Vice-Admiral Senyavin,captures the island of Tenedos the Macedonians under the chieftains of Mt. Olympos Giannis Stathas and Nikotsaras participate,and are distinguished,to the capture of the island,then its defense and to the naval battles against the Ottomans.

From to the material published by K. A. Vakalopoulos in his work "The Northern Hellenism during the precocious phase of the Macedonian Struggle,1878-1894",results that after the failure of the revolution of 1878 in Macedonia,the revolutionary action of the Macedonians continued mainly in Western and in Northern Macedonia by organized revolutionary corps,typical Kleftes and Armatoli forces.One of them was that under Theodoros Ziakas and Loukas Kokkinos in Grevena region and in the Kastanohoria region.
This traditional song talks of Loukas Kokkinos.

Captain Stavros Hapsas from Kassandra, Chalkidiki, was one of the leaders of the Greek Revolution of 1821 in Macedonia. Along with Emmanuel Papas fought for the liberation of the region from the Ottoman rule.He fell with his men in the battle of Vasilika, 25 km from Thessaloniki, on June 9 and 10, 1821.

A lot of people consider it Grecoman - because of tyhe fact that instead of "gospogitsa", in the text is used "Kiria Maria", "Kiria Despina", "Kiria Katerina".

ΤΟΥ ΝΙΚΟΤΣΑΡΑ
(1807)

O Νίκος Τσάρας, ο πρεσβύτατος υιός του καπετάνιου Τσάρα, πατρώον έχοντος το αρματωλίκι της Ελασσώνος, μετά την δολοφονίαν τούτου, νεότατος την ηλικίαν, έλαβε την αρχηγίαν των παλληκαριών του πατρός του. Καταδιωχθείς υπό του Αλή πασά, εμάχετο ως κλέφτης εν Θεσσαλία, κατά των Αλβανών και του αρματωλού, ον εγκατέστησεν ο Αλής εις το προγονικόν του αρματωλίκι. Ονομαστός γενόμενος δια την ανδρείαν και την πολεμικήν δεξιότητα αυτού, συνεκάλεσεν εις εν επί του Ολύμπου μοναστήριον σύνοδον κλεφτών, ήτις προς τελεσφορωτέραν καταπολέμησιν των Τούρκων, απεφάσισε την ναυπήγησιν μικρών καταδρομικών πλοίων. Ναυλοχών δ’ εν Σκιάθω και Σκοπέλω, δια συνεχών αποβάσεων εις Θεσσαλίαν και δια τολμηρών επιδρομών εις τας ακτάς της Μακεδονίας εστενοχώρει τον Αλήν και τους εν Μακεδονία Τούρκους.Αλλά κατά το έτος 1806 ο τουρκικός στόλος διέλυσε τον καταδρομικόν στολίσκον του Νικοτσάρα, ούτος δ' όμως το επόμενον έτος, παράτολμος και ακατάβλητος, επρότεινεν εις τον εν Αιγαίω ναύαρχον του ρωσικού στόλου Δημήτριον Σινιάβιν να διασχίση μετά σώματος επιλέκτων Ελλήνων οπλιτών την Μακεδονίαν και να ενωθή μετά του εν Μολδοβλαχία ρωσικού στρατού, προσβάλλων εκ νώτων τους Τούρκους. Ο Σινιάβιν ενέκρινε το ριψοκίνδυνον σχέδιον, υποσχεθείς εν αποτυχία να προστατεύση την υποχώρησιν αυτού, στέλλων εις τα παράλια της Μακεδονίας πλοία όπως παραλάβωσι τους υποχωρούντας.
Τότε ο Νικοτσάρας μεταβάς εις την Στερεάν Ελλάδα ανεκοίνωσεν εις αρματωλούς και κλέφτας το σχέδιόν του και τους έπεισε να τον ακολουθήσωσιν. Εκλέξαντες αυτόν αρχηγόν των διεπεραιώθησαν δια διαφόρων οδών μυστικώς εις την Σκόπελον 250 περίπου Ρουμελιώται και ισάριθμοι Θεσσαλοί, Μακεδόνες και νησιώται. Εκ Σκοπέλου απέβησαν εις Κατερίναν του Ολύμπου και υπό το πρόσχημα ότι μετέβαινον εις επικουρίαν των εν Σερβία κατά του Καραγεώργη πολεμούντων Τούρκων, σταλέντες υπό του Αλή πασά, διώδευσαν ανενόχλητοι δια της Πιερίας και διήλθον τον Αλιάκμονα και τον Αξιόν. Αλλά περαιτέρω, αποκαλυφθέντος του σκοπού του, ο Νικοτσάρας ηναγκάζετο να προχωρή μαχόμενος. Διελθών τον Στρυμόνα, ηδυνήθη να διασπάση την εις τας κλεισωρείας του Δεμίρ Ισάρ (Σιδηρόκαστρο) δύναμιν των Τούρκων και να προχωρήση εις Νευροκόπι. Οι Τούρκοι καταλαβόντες τας επικαίρους θέσεις τον ηνάγκασαν να υποχώρηση, αλλ' αναπαυθείς επ' ολίγον εις Τσέρνοβαν κατώρθωσε να διαβή τον ποταμόν του Νευροκοπίου και να διευθυνθή προς τον Αίμον. Δεν ηδυνήθη δ' όμως να προχωρήση περαιτέρω, αναγκασθείς εις υποχώρησιν υπό ισχυράς τουρκικής δυνάμεως. Κατά την κάθοδόν του εις την μακεδονικήν παραλίαν επετέθησαν κατ' αυτού τέσσαρες χιλιάδες Αλβανοί, Τούρκοι και Κονιάροι Τούρκοι, συνάψας δε προς αυτούς τριήμερον μάχην, εξαντληθέντων των πολεμοφοδίων, διέσχισε δι' εφόδου ξιφήρης τας εχθρικάς φάλαγγας και διηυθύνθη προς την γέφυραν του Πράβι (Ελευθερούπολη), δια να διέλθη τον Στρυμόνα. Η γέφυρα είχεν αποφραχθή δι’ αλύσεων, τας οποίας διέσπασε, κατήλθεν εις τον κόλπον του Ορφανού, μη ευρών δε ως ανέμενε ρωσικά πλοία όπως έπιβιβασθή, επορεύθη οδεύων διά της παραλίας εις την Χαλκιδικήν, και κατέφυγεν εις τα μοναστήρια του Αγίου Όρους όπου εσώθη. Οι περισωθέντες ήσαν το δέκατον μόλις των εκστρατευσάντων, περί τους πεντήκοντα μόνον.


Τρία κομμάτια σύννεφα 'ς τον Έλυμπο, 'ς τη ράχη,
τό να βαστάει τη δροσιά, τάλλο βαρύ χαλάζι,
το τρίτο το μαυρότερο τη θάλασσ’ αγναντεύει.
"Πάψε, γιαλέ μου, το θυμό, πάψε τα κύματα σου,
να βγουν τα κλεφτοκάραβα, πόχουν τους κλέφταις μέσα,
να βγή κι' ο Νίκος μια βολά ψηλά 'ς τ’ Αργυροπούλι."
Όσαις μαννούλαις τ' άκουσαν, όλαις κινούν και πάνε.
"Νίκο μ', το πού είν' οι άντρες μας, το πού ναι τα παιδιά μας;
-Οι άντρες σας δεν είν' εδώ, νουδέ και τα παιδιά σας,
πάησαν πέρα 'ς το Χάντακα 'ς το έρημο το Πράβι,
πάν να τροχίσουν τα σπαθιά, να πλύνουν τα τουφέκια."

Τι έχουν της Ζίχνας τα βουνά και στέκουν μαραμμένα;
Μήνα χαλάζι τα βαρεί, μήνα βαρύς χειμώνας;
Ουδέ χαλάζι τα βαρεί, ουδέ βαρύς χειμώνας,
ο Νικοτσάρας πολεμάει, με τρία βιλαέτια,
τη Ζίχνα και το Χάντακα, το έρημο το Πράβι.
Τρεις μέραις κάνει πόλεμο, τρεις μέραις και τρεις νύχτες,
χωρίς ψωμί, χωρίς νερό, χωρίς ύπνο στο μάτι.
Χιόνι έτρωγαν, χιόνι έπιναν και τη φωτιά βαστούσαν.
Τα παλληκάρια φώναξε 'ς τοις τέσσερες ο Νίκος.
"Ακούστε, παλληκάρια μου, λίγα κι’ αντρειωμένα,

βάλτε τσελίκι 'ς την καρδιά και σίδερο 'ς τα πόδια,
κι’ αφήστε τα τουφέκια σας και βγάλτε τα σπαθιά σας,
γιρούσι για να κάμωμε να φτάσωμε το Πράβι."
Το δρόμο πήραν σύνταχα κ' έφτασαν 'ς το γιοφύρι,
ο Νίκος με το δαμασκί την άλυσό του κόφτει,
φεύγουν οι Τούρκοι σαν τραγιά, πίσω το Πράβι αφήνουν.


ΤΟΥ ΓΙΑΝΝΗ ΤΟΥ ΣΤΑΘΑ

Μετά την συνομολόγησιν ανακωχής μεταξύ της Ρωσίας και της Τουρκίας (12 Αυγούστου 1807) ο εν Τενέδω ναυλοχών ρωσικός στόλος έλυσε τον αποκλεισμόν του Ελλησπόντου και ανακαλέσας τας φρουράς εκ των κατειλημμένων νήσων του Αιγαίου, αφήκε τους συναγωνισθέντας μετά των Ρώσων Έλληνας εκθέτους εις την εκδίκησιν των Τούρκων. Ο Αλή πασάς απέλυσε τότε κατά της Θεσσαλίας στίφη πολυαρίθμων Αλβανών, άτινα εδήουν την χώραν και κατέσφαζον τους χριστιανούς. Οι αρματωλοί και κλέφται του Ολύμπου μετά ματαίαν αντίστασιν υπεχώρησαν και κατέφυγον εις την Σκίαθον. Εκεί δε συνενωθέντες μετ' αυτών και εκ της άλλης Ελλάδος οπλαρχηγοί, απεφάσισαν να εξακολουθήσουν τον διακοπέντα υπό των Ρώσων αγώνα και συνεκρότησαν καταδρομικόν στολίσκον, όστις, ότε προσετέθη εις αυτούς και ο διάσημος αρματωλός του Ολύμπου Νικοτσάρας, απετελέσθη εξ 70 πλοιαρίων. Του στολίσκου γενικόν αρχηγόν έταξαν τον Σταθάν, υπηρετήσαντα πρότερον και εις τον ρωσικόν στόλον, αντιναύαρχον δε τον Νικοτσάραν. Ο στολίσκος ούτος ορμητήριον έχων την Σκίαθον, διαιρεθείς δ' εις επτά μοίρας, και αναπετάσας ελληνικήν σημαίαν, προσέβαλλε τα τουρκικά παράλια και τα πλοία και αντιπαρετάσσετο και κατά των πολεμικών σκαφών των Τούρκων. Το επόμενον άσμα περιγράφει μίαν τοιαύτην σύγκρουσιν του πλοίου του Σταθά προς τουρκικήν κορβέτταν.

Μαύρο καράβ' αρμένιζ 'ς τα μερη της Κασάντρας.
Μαύρα παννιά το σκέπαζαν και τουρανού σημαία.
Κι’ ομπρός κορβέττα μ' άλικη σημαία του προβγαίνει.
"Μάινα, φωνάζει, τα παννιά, ρήξε τοις γάμπιαις κάτου.
-Δεν τα μαϊνάρω τα παννιά κι' ουδέ τα ρήχνω κάτω.
Μη με θαρρείτε νιόνυφη, νύφη να προσκυνήσω;
Εγώ είμαι ο Γιάννης του Σταθά, γαμπρός του Μπουκουβάλα
Τράκο, λεβένταις, δώσετε, απίστους μη φοβάστε. "
Κ' οι Τούρκοι βόλτα έρρηξαν κ' εγύρισαν την πλώρη.
Πρώτος ο Γιάννης πέταξε με το σπαθί 'ς το χέρι.
'Σ τα μπούνια τρέχουν αίματα, το πέλαο κοκκινίζει,
κι' αλλά! αλλάχ οι άπιστοι κράζοντας προσκυνούνε.

The song is based on the real story of a beautiful young girl ,contested by many men, who lived around 1850 - 1870 in Nigrita. Nowdays every year during the week of Easter, a feast dedicated to the memory of Yerakina is celebrated in Nigrita.

*κουλιαντίνα,kouliantina = small round loaf of bread prepared by the women of the house and offered to the carol singers who partecipated to the "Kolianta" tradition.

"Kolianta" or "Kolinta" is a traditional Christmas celebration in Macedonia and Thrace. Late at night of the 23rd of Dicember and substantially early in the morning on the Christmas Eve young boys and even older men are wandering in groups around their villages going from door to door singing the Christmas carols.They sing different songs expressing their Christmas wishes, depending on the family living in the particular house the group is visiting.There are songs for unmarried women,for parents whose child lives away from home,for elder persons and many other arguments.The themes of the songs vary from village to village too.The owners of the house on the arrival of the boys open their doors and offer to them the kouliantina, fruits, dry fruits and sweets.In case they refuse to open their door they "authorise" the group to sing songs with provocative and unorthodox arguments, as in the case of this song.

A very beautiful "slow" macedonian traditional song from the circle of the "separation" songs or "songs of the foreign land" (του αποχωρισμού και της ξενιτιάς). This song accompanies the bride from her home to the church on the day of her wedding.The last two versions are instrumental.

Έργο-θησαυρό για τον μουσικό μας πολιτισμό και υλικό-υποθήκη για τις επόμενες γενιές αφήνει ο Σίμων Καρράς, που έφυγε από τη ζωή, προχθές τη νύχτα, σε ηλικία 96 ετών.

Μουσικός ερευνητής, δάσκαλος και ψάλτης, αφιέρωσε τη ζωή του, με αδιάκοπη εργασία 75 χρόνων, στη μελέτη για την ελληνική παραδοσιακή μουσική. Με τις έρευνες που έκανε ο Σίμων Καρράς ήθελε ν' αποδείξει ότι η αγνή δημοτική και λαϊκή (με τη σωστή έννοια) μουσική προερχόταν από την αρχαία Ελλάδα.

Με την περιπλάνησή του (επί δεκαετίες) σε όλη την Ελλάδα και την έρευνα που έκανε ο Σίμων Καρράς, έχει δημιουργήσει ένα κολοσσιαίο έργο, με αρχείο από 20.000 παραδοσιακά τραγούδια. Ήδη υπάρχουν 19 τόμοι των 400 σελίδων ο καθένας, με δημοτικά, έτοιμοι για έκδοση. Και ακόμη, από τις εκπομπές του στο ΕΙΡ (Εθνικό Ίδρυμα Ραδιο&
