I am sure this was not to legitimize them as a 'country' and if so the action made me very proud. First they offered medics. The Greek Govt refused saying it had enough. Than the last i heard they had firefighters ready on their boarder to help, ..needless to say they were never invited in to help.

Because as sneaking fyromians they would have capitalized on the fact that they HELPED!!!!!Nothing for nothing with these people...

I suppose the reason they refused help from FYROM is that elections are looming and Greek voters seeing fire brigades with MAKEDONIJA written on them wouldn't really inspire much confidence in Karamanlis's administration.

Back on March 1986 when a great fire began in the petrol tanks of EKO in Thessaloniki the greek government accepted the help insistently offered by the yugoslavian government ,since south yugoslavia was provided with fuel via Thessaloniki. Few days later the minister of Macedonia and Thrace Yannis Papadopoulos was declaring in "Thessaloniki" newspaper that... ""this is a national issue that needs to be handled with attention, because now the skopjian propaganda through all mass media propagandizes that "the macedonian fire men offered important help and saved their brothers macedonians in Thessaloniki".""
It's not difficult to understand how skopjians would have used the whole issue nowdays.

It seems however that that last Wednesday Greece helped FYROM with firefighters (see article (http://www.greekembassy.org/Embassy/content/en/Article.aspx?office=1&folder=19&article=21659)).

Not accepting Macedonia's help was just a slap in Greece's face. These kinds of childish acts just digs Greece a bigger hole. It's embarassing, to say the least.

By knowing the provocative behaviour- in the last deacade- of the Slavonic Macedonists would be an impolicy to accept FYROMian hypocritical aim.

In other words, some Greeks are so gullible as to believe that nationalistic crap coming from some Macedonians!!!! I guess that's par for the course.

And they go further and act like little kids, refusing help from those "hypocrites", as you call them!!!

They extended their helping hand just to get spit on. How nice!!!

That was the response of the government, and for them to respond like that, they certainly have their reasons, and these reasons most usually never reach to us mortals down here.

I can accept that logic. But whatever reason the Greek government had were probably very unimportant reasons of no national security importance.

Ahh, yes. I agree. But I am only following cue from responses on this thread. It seems others have lots of information of the assuming kind.

"like little kids","childish" greek etc. Seams you did not read all the responses. And in the end, the greek government gave a hand to the skopjan one AGAIN (as in many other circustances) when the latter asked for it because of the fires in its territory. Check an other thread for your information. That's what you call a childish attitude. You forgot to tell us though what kind of a mature attitude was the one of the UN assembly president the other day.

Cheap tactics, as in propaganda, I would agree. But Greece has also pulled their own cheap tactics by spitting in the open hands of the Macedonians that offered help. It's a two way street, buddy!

Cheap tactics again, and by Greeks. At least the Macedonians accepted Greek help without spitting in their open hands.

Yeh ok, i didn't see any comment on the UN assembly case though. What was that ....an action of great courage  or some kind of a coup for the first time in the UN? The cheap tactics we were talking about

Macedonia and Greece keep on throwing cheap tactics at each other. I wonder when one of them would be man enough to say enough and do some real talking. Both Macedonia and Greece are really ridiculous and non-productive.
