I loved especially the first question in the second quiz along with the right answer!
"Hephaistion and Alexander are hailed as great ancient Greeks, but what province were they from?"

I am not telling! It is very strange that I know more about Ancient Macedonia than I do about Sparta, even though I have read many books on Sparta. I guess since I am always in a Macedonian forum the Spartan info does not get retained as well!?

Alexander being poisoned is not really a rumor but fits perfectly with the circumstances leading up to and including his death.
Remember when he first got sick he recovered enough to feel better. He then went drinking again and once again he fell sick and this time died. He also had many Macedonian enemies from other ruling houses. There were also disgruntled officers who were tired of being so far from their homes and families. The list goes on and on. So for some one to poison him is not far fetched and is perfectly plausible.

It is just speculation though; there is no concrete proof. The thing is it took him over 10 days to die. If he had been poisoned, many historians (including R L Fox) reason, he would have died much sooner. Until they find his body, we shall keep on guessing.

His symptoms improved and he was better for several days to once again fall ill and die. So how is it if he had any of those viruses did he get better for several days? As for the poisoning if he was poisoned and then watched over by a physician he would have improved but once he went back to the drinking parties he would have once again been poisoned THUS falling ill again and dying.
If he would have had one of those viruses and recovered he would not have gotten sick again.
So we have;
Poison = sick-recovered-sick-dead.
Virus = sick-recovered
Poisoning makes the most sense.
As for why the physicians not recognizing the poison it is very simple! There were many poisons present in Persia and India and Bactria that were not known by the Greek physicians. If the poisons created symptoms reminiscent of a certain virus then they would have not recognized as being such.
There were way too many people who wanted him out of the way and too many people with direct access to him. If it was an obvious poisoning then the perpetrators would have been discovered and summarily executed.
