The Leader of the Democratic party of Albanians was kind to reply to questions of FOCUS News, commenting on the situation in Macedonia after the decision of the oppositional party of the ethnic Albanians Democratic Union for Integration /DUI/ to return to the Parliament following a boycott, which lasted several months.
FOCUS: How do you evaluate the statements, made by DUI, that there is a contract with VMRO-DPMNE, called by the media the Gruevski-Ahmeti contract?
Arben Xhaferi: This is a method, through which the DUI is trying to preserve their position and the confidence to the party. Such contract does not exist, neither written, nor signed by whoever. I believe that this statement (for a signed contract) is for personal use, so that the DUI can explain to its electorate the motives through which they have created this political crisis and why are they returning now.
This is about their political error.
FOCUS:Do the Government and the society in Macedonia have equal priorities?
Arben Xhaferi:It is hard to achieve complete match between the priorities of the Government and the expectations of the people, concerning this topic. It is hard to achieve such thing, but it should be said that this Government has undertaken serious engagements and bears the responsibility to meet these expectations at least partially.
FOCUS:Which are the main issues, which Macedonia has to solve in the forthcoming period?
Arben Xhaferi:Most of all, as it is known, a society does not have permanent issues; it has issues, that come forward in particular periods. That is, this is not about eternal issues, but issues, that have been undertaken as engagement by the Ohrid framework agreement, issues, that are connected to Macedonia’s integration in EU and NATO. As a whole, if we make an objective analysis, this would seem not like political problems, but something real (…) One of the most important issues at the moment is the use of the Albanian language, for which we have to hold consultations, not only among ourselves, but also with international partners.
FOCUS: What is your prognosis for the accession of Macedonia to NATO and the European Union?
Arben Xhaferi: What we have to have in mind is that NATO and the United States and the EU support Macedonia for its membership in structures like NATO and the EU. They are opening this way in front of Macedonia and I personally believe that the country will walk this way with more and more confidence.
