One of the latest habbits of propagandists from FYROM and their diaspora is to publish books under non-slavic names so that maybe their propaganda will be taken more serious. One good sample of this pitiful propagandistic attempt is a lurker under the fake name of J.S. Gandeto, probably ashamed to use his real slavic name Josif Grezlovski since his absurb 'theories' have been refuted in google groups long ago. This person is the "author" on a book that compares "ancient Macedonians to ancient Greeks". Interestingly this book has been published by iUniverse, a publisher that publishes books funded by their authors.

Anyway lets have a look to the absurb "conclusions" of Gandeto aka Grezlovski which contain the following:

Ancient Macedonians:

(1) Did not, and could not "hire" mercenaries from their own kingdom of Macedon.

Fact: Grezlovski obviously ignores certain facts of ancient Macedonian history. For example during a difficult period for the king of Macedon, Amyntas, his ally, the Spartan Teleutias ordered Amyntas to enroll mercenaries from the "nearby kingdoms". Among the mercenaries who helped Teleutias and Amyntas were the Macedonian cavalry coming from Elimeia.

(2) Did not have "allies" from their own kingdom of Macedon.

Fact: Grezlovski is getting caught lying again. According to (Herod. 2.99.2)
"These are of the Macedones also Lyncestae and Elimiotae and other tribes further inland who are indeed allied and obidient to them but have their own monarchies"

In reality the greek original text contains the words "ξύμμαχα" and "υπήκοα". Alliance of course can exist only between independent states and the term "υπήκοα" points out a relation based on subjection.

(3) Did not raze cities to the ground from their own kingdom of Macedon.

Fact: Sparta didnt razed cities to the ground from Lacedaemon territories either. So?

(4) Did not sell the inhabitants of their own cities as slaves.

Fact: Neither greek city-states sold as slaves from their own city.

(5) Did not pillage and burn the crops in their own countryside.

Fact: Its common sense that no greek city-state pillaged and burned their own countryside.

(6) Did not station garrisons in their own Macedonian kingdom.

Fact: Another lie from Grezlovski aka 'Gandeto'.

and when Pausanias was coming back to contend for the throne, an exile then, but favoured by opportunity and the support of many of the people, and bringing a Greek force with him, and when he had already seized Anthemon, Therma, Strepsa, and certain other places, at a time when the Macedonians were not united, but most of them favoured Pausanias

However there are examples among ancient sources that even Greeks like Spartans placed garrisons to other greek cities like Thebes.

The events which followed confirmed this suspicion; for when the Thebans had expelled the Spartan garrison and recovered the freedom of their city, Agesilaus declared war against them.

This doesnt mean of course Spartans were non-Greeks according to the pathetic argument of Gandeto aka Grezlovski.

(7) Could not have been asked by their own people to evacuate their country.

Fact: Grezlovski as usual is getting caught lying and distorts historical truth. He simply ignores the fact many eminent Macedonians, among them kings, were exiled by their own people. A classic example is shown above by the story of Pausanias vs Ptolemy Alorites and Eurydice. Even during Alexander's campaign to Asia there were in the other side ALSO eminent Macedonians.

(8 ) Were not hated and cursed by their own populace.

Fact: According to the eminent prof. Bossworth, "Menelaus of Pelagon fled Lyncestis when the kingdom was annexed by Philip, finding refuge and politeia in Athens”. He continues “The upper kingdoms then had a constant struggle to preserve their independence and fostered alliances with the peoples to the west and north. On the other hand the policy of the kings of Macedon was to make the recalcitrant mountaineers truly “ξύμμαχα και υπήκοα. One line of approach was direct annexation attempted disastrously by Perdiccas II and successfully by Philip.”

Of course we shouldnt ignore the fact Philip II was assasinated by a mountaineer Macedon and two other Macedonian nobles were murdered for taking part in the same conspiracy, nor that the hate some Macedonians felt about Alexander's policies lead them to find themselves in the side of Persians against their own countrymen (Amyntas, son of Antiochus)

(9) Did not destroy religious temples in their own kingdom of Macedon.

Fact: Obviously each greek city-state/kingdom didnt destroy religious temples inside their own territories.

(10) Did not (could not) enslave their own country.

Fact:
According to (Herod. 2.99.2)

Fact: Gandeto aka Grezlovski has totally lost it during his delirium.

He set the Persian palace on fire, even though parmenio urged him to save it, arguing that it was not right to destroy his own property, and that the Asians would not thus devote themselves to him, if he seemed determined not to rule Asia, but only to pass through as a conqueror.
but Alexander replied that he intended to punish the persians for their invasion of Greece, the destruction of Athens, the burning of the temples, and all manner of terrible things done to the Greeks: because of these things, he was exacting revenge.
but Alexander does not seem to me to have acted prudently, nor can it be regarded as any kind of punishment upon Persians of long ago.

Around 143/142 BC, Damon the Macedonian, son of Nicanor, from the city of Thessalonica, paid with his own money and erected a statue of copper in Olympia, honouring Q.Caecilius Metellus. In the statue's inscription it is written as motives of this honouring the virtue of the honoured and the sympathetic actions of Quintus Metellus to "Macedonians and the rest of Greeks". What is more interesting is that the statue was erected from Damon the Macedonian in Olympia, the most important Hellenic centre of that era and it reveals Macedonians saw themselves as Greeks.

CONCLUSION:

Despite the pitiful attempts of Gandeto aka Grezlovski to distort well-known historical facts, the available evidence shows that ancient Macedonians considered themselves to be Greek and certainly totally unrelated to the inhabitants of FYROM.
