ALEXANDER THE GREAT FILM PROJECT
ALEXANDER THE GREAT FILM PROJECT
A Delegation comprised by Mr. Steve Maya; script-writer of the film Alexander The Great, Nina Peropoulos; Past Supreme President, Pan-Macedonian Association Inc. USA; and. Mr. Sher Malik, from “Kalas” Tribe of Himalayan region of Pakistan, who is also the President of the “Indigenous Peoples Survival Foundation” under the auspices of the U.N, has recently returned from a mission tour to Australia. The purpose of this mission was to publicize and promote the upcoming filming of the life of Alexander The Great. The script for this film is written by a gifted Hellene from Melbourne, Australia, Mr. Steve Maya, who had a vision in his early youth to produce an authentic film about the life of Alexander The Great, which would very precisely and accurately portray his achievements and contribution to Hellenism and World civilization.
The tour began in Sydney where the team was hosted by Mr. Chris Papapetrou, President of Pan-Macedonian Society of Sydney and members of the Executive Board. The team participated in the opening ceremony of “Demetria” well organized by Pan-Macedonian Society of Sydney at the Hall of “Alexander The Great”. [The “Demetria” in Australia, as in Greece, is a series of cultural events, which last for six weeks.] During the ceremony, in which all team members spoke, Mr. Maya gave a presentation very successfully and drew the enthusiasm and admiration from all in attendance. Present were the Consul General of Greece, Hon. E. Damianakis; the Minister of Justice for Victoria, Hon. J Hatzistergos; the Mayor of Marikville, Hon. Gary Hargreave; the President of the Serbian Community of St. Stefanos,
Mr. Misits, several other dignitaries and many Pan-Macedonian members. While in Sydney, the Delegation was warmly received by Archbishop Stylianos, who was very supportive and impressed by the entire project. The delegation was also very warmly received the next day at the “Demetria” Annual Ball Dance. Several Interviews by the media and meetings with key people in Sydney’s business community followed. Mr. and Mrs. Tsiolas escorted the delegation in Sydney. Ms. R. Tsiola, a great Hellene herself is the representative of Mr. Maya in Australia and she made all necessary arrangements and appointments for the delegation in Australia. After Mr. Maya’s presentation, the renowned poet, Ms. L. Diakanastasis read a patriotic poem in reference to “Alexander The Great” and made a motion for the year 2004 to be proclaimed as “Alexander The Great” Year.
After Sydney, the delegation visited Adelaide where they were hosted by the Past Supreme President of Pan-Macedonian Association of Australia, Mrs. Anna Volis and the local members as well as the President and members of the Hellenic Community of Adelaide in the headquarters of which the presentation took place. A press conference to the “Radio Hellas Doriforos” also was given.
The team spent most of its time in Melbourne, the birthplace of Mr. Maya. There we were very warmly received and hosted by his family and also from the broader Hellenic Community, which endorsed and supported this so meaningful and crucially important project for Hellenism. A presentation took place at “The Hellenic Educational ad Cultural Studies Center” of Latrobe University under the auspices of the Professor and Director Mr. A. Thamis. Many interviews were given to the press, TV, and nationwide radio stations. Numerous presentations were also given at the headquarters of many local Hellenic Organizations. However, the more interesting ones were at the Club of Limnians (Mr. S. Maya’s father is from Limnos) and the Kastorian - Argos Orestikon Club (Mr. S. Maya’s mother origin is from there). A highlight, at the Macedonian Center, headquarters of the Pan-Macedonian Association of Melbourne where the Supreme President of the Pan-Macedonian Association of Melbourne and all Australia, Mr. D. Minas, the members of the Executive Board, Past Supreme President
Mr. S. Corossidis and many Macedonian members hosted us. After a very informative and successful presentation, the Association presented Mr. Maya with a plaque for all his efforts and his contribution to Hellenism. The very important closing event [after several private meetings with businessmen who expressed special interest about the project], was a cruise on a private yacht in the Yiara River with over 200 well established Greek Australian businessmen and with us the Consul of Greece and the Minister of Public Works. Prior to that we attended the very successful event, the Annual “Demetria” Ball Dance of the Pan-Macedonian Association of Melbourne, where a brief presentation by all delegation members took place.
In these difficult days we live with numerous provocations and the falsification of our History. It is a task and duty of all Hellenes in Greece and abroad to be energized and support Mr. Maya’s project because by doing so we are protecting the dignity of our culture and most importantly our glorious History which our heroic forefathers left to us as a legacy and it is our obligation to pass on to future generations.
Very Sincerely,
Nina Peropoulos
